We just finished burying Minuet, our 11 year old Golden Retriever. She had been bad for a while but the past couple of weeks she had really taken a turn for the worse. Her dementia was almost complete and she had started just laying around "groaning". When she wasn't doing that she was wandering around aimlessly. She had gotten bad enough that she was getting stuck in a corner. She'd get her nose in a corner and didn't seem to know that she could just turn one way or the other. In the middle of the night last night she had peed all over the tile floor in the kitchen, slipped and fallen in it and couldn't get up. My wife and I decided that we just couldn't let her suffer any more. We called our vet on the way home and he got here at about 6:30 and we had her put to sleep. I had told myself I would be cool and not get too emotional, but as I held her head and scratched her ears and said "It's okay, girl" as she fell asleep for the last time I noticed tears running down my nose. Sometimes I can't help wishing that people could demonstrate the unconditional love that dogs do. The world sure would be a better place.
Sorry to hear. We had to do that a couple years back with our springer spaniel. It was terrible. She had a stroke and couldn't move.
Sorry to hear. And then you see crap like this that just makes you shake your head. Dog found in duct tape in Marathon County - WAOW - Newsline 9, Wausau News, Weather, Sports
that stuff makes me sick. I had a bowhunter shoot my boxer on his way in to his stand within about 80yds of my house
Sorry to hear that. 11 years of good stuff I bet. My brittany meets me at the door as soon as I get home every night, one of the best things of my day. We decided to have our first brittany fixed when she was about 9 months old and the vet gave her too much anesthesia and killed her. I promise you the vet will never forget who I am as long as he lives. I hope you get through the next couple of days ok, it will be rough, but the good times and having a good dog around are worth it.
Matter of fact, that brittany (her name was Cabela) came from Tennessee, Stones River Kennel, it was close to Murphysboro.
Thats a tough call to make man. when i was younger i had to get my dog put to sleep due to cancer. i cryed like a baby with every shovel of dirt. my heart goes out to you and your family.
Really sorry to hear that LC. We had to do the same thing to my German Shepard/collie in 2007. He blew his hip out and couldn't even walk anymore, my dad had to carry him to the car to drive to the vet. He was 14 1/2.
Sorry to hear about that. Love my golden and can't stand the day that we will have to put him down. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I appreciate it guys. I remember when we bought her. We were just browsing in a mall in Virginia Beach, VA and we stopped in a pet store. There was this sickly puppy. You could tell that she was ill. My wife asked if we could see it. While she was looking it over she told me that the pup was sick and would probably die if we didn't buy her. I remember saying, "You're kidding, right?". So,.... $950 later we load a sickly golden retriever puppy into our car. :D We hadn't even gotten out of the parking lot when the pup took a big runny crap all over the back seat. Oh my God, the smell was awful! We cleaned it up as best we could and drove home on I-264 with our heads out the window. My wife was right. She had all sorts of bacterial infections and her hip had been broken at some point. We ended up spending another 3 or 4 hundred dollars in vet bills before she was healthy. I remember that first couple of months during the house training. That dog would take a crap in the middle of the night and the smell would wake us up gagging out of a sound sleep! Of course she eventually got better. She got to go for walks on the beach. I remember her going nuts at the chunks of foam being driven by the wind across the wet sand. I thought we were going to lose her once when she saw dolphins just offshore and charged into the surf. :D Yeah, she had a good life.
Extremely sorry to hear that. I have 2 yellow labs, and we feel the same way about them as you do. She is in a better place now, so sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear. I'm sitting here scratching my labs head while reading this. Can't stand the thought of losing him.
