Hey guys so how many of you have been chasing a big buck all year and then he just vanishes. So come to find out that either he got hit by a car or the neighbors you don't like got him. Does anyone have any good story's to share? Mines kind of short. But I've been targeting a big boar bear all year now he's been coming to my bait regularly and I have great pics of him. So I get a text from a friend last night and she says the picked up a huge road kill bear. I was like hey cool. Then a little while later she sends pics and says it weighed over 400lbs. Now here is we're that sick feeling came over me. Sure enough the big boar has the same markings on this left leg as the one I've been targeting. The bears was hit about 20 miles from my bait.
Most likely not I owuld think that it's most likely not the bear you've been baiting. Keep putiin the donuts to him and running your camera. Hopefully you continue to get pics.
Four years ago we got new neighbors and of course they hunt. To start off we hadn't even met them yet and the guy runs over our mailbox with his zero turn and sends his girlfriend to give it to us. Strike 1. Their kids ride their fourwheelers all over our private property. Strike 2. Finally deer season comes around and the first day of rifle they shoot a huge buck we had pics and sightings of all summer. They hunt 80 yds behind their house and ride their four wheeler to their stand. Its nice to know they haven't shot a deer since then.
Oh man...do I have stories, I could fill the forum! From intensive management since 1991 we had a reputation for having the best bucks in most of out county...reputation freaking sucks! We had and have neighbors that allow hunting so every year we generally have about 30 hunters trying to cram up on three borders and driving the road in front of my house on the fourth border trying to shoot from the road and spotlighting.... Finally put up a bunch of fancy "Cameras in use" signs and that cut it way back. So yes, I have had tons of trophies caught on tape and disappear....makes me sick. People take advantage of your hard work and money spent for the price of a tag...but nothing can be done so that's life. I can't own all the ground around me...the borders the jerks hunt just move out, lol. Besides, none of the neighbors will sell at this point. Makes a high fence seem pretty good. Quail and pheasants have been the same problem.blah Now I have a new neighbor to the west that bought 33 acres and moved down from KC and hunts the crap out of it. Have not caught him trespassing yet but he got a good deal, 33 acres connected to a 15 year managed deer preserve, lol.
I had a nice massive 8 point that I had passed up a few times last year. This deer had great potential. A friend of mine drove passed the place I hunt and saw a deer that had been hit by a car. He said it was about a 140" deer. I showed him some pics and he quickly identified the deer. That sick feeling suddenly came over me. I know this deer wasn't a record or anything, but I had hopes of hunting this deer again. I hate to see him go down that way.
I could care less what the neighbors shoot as long as they do it legally (like them or not) but one of my favorite properties is 20 acres right on a 4 lane highway . There is nothing worse than seeing a deer in the ditch caped out and having to wonder which one you lost this time , MoDot came into our store a couple of years ago and told me that they had picked up 34 deer in front of that property . I ended up having a couple of bucks in the 180-200" range disappear that year . I had never heard about anyone shooting them so I'm guessing they were hit on the highway . I had seen 2 deer caped out in the ditch and a few that the head was cut off that year . Really wish I could talk MoDot into lowering the speed limit to 35 through there but they just laugh at my when I do
Here is my problem with absent scouting ( that is what I call it). Having trail cameras and seeing everything that passes by makes people have a sense of ownership of what ever they are seeing on their property, I am just as guilty as the next guy. I think it is important to remember that we hunt wild animals just because the show up all summer on our cameras does not make them ours. I hunt 100 acres surrounded by farms of 500 or more acres and all the farms hunt too. I get the same feeling everyone else does when the neighbor shoots a slob but I usually go over and drink a beer with him and shake his had. The whole road kill thing drives me crazy though
