Things happen. The longest I've every trailed a double lung shot deer was at the most 125 yards! I'm just saying. What does you film show?
Hey, my advice is to make sure that you only take completely broadside shots or a deer slightly quartering away. Good luck. Losing a deer is part of it.
The shot was actually high and a little back, I can put the film in slow motion on my camera but coudlnt figure out how to post it like that.... Yes i found my arrow, it was a clean pass through and was on the ground behind where the deer was. The blood on the arrow and on the trail when tracking was all thick, bright red and bubbly which is why I figured lung shot but maybe im wrong
She was pretty much broadside when she looked up which is when I took the shot other than her left leg was way back which I didnt notice until looking at the video so i definately made a mistake in shooting when i shouldnt have... I guess i got caught up in wanting to get my first bow kill which is never a good thing.... Ive definately learned from my mistakes though as I have been thinking about it pissed at myself since
Yeah, watched it about 100 times... couldnt figure out how to edit it and save it in slowmo though, the shot was a tad high and about an inch or two back im pretty sure
When I started bow hunting, I had the same experience as you have. Since that day I have been waiting for the right time to shoot. Sometimes that means never getting to shoot. At least by learning this same lesson, you now know why it is important to be patient. Matt
Well definetly not a way for anyone to get introduced to bowhunting but I am glad to see that you went back out and gave it another try at finding her. Things like this happen and has to many of the people on the forums. With any luck she lived and you get a few take aways from it that will serve you better in the future! Keep it up though it is a great sport and you are just getting started!
