I talked my boss into letting me leave early Friday afternoon. I rushed home, took a scent killing shower, and headed for the woods. About 2 hours till sunset, I settled into my stand. There was no wind and the woods seemed super quiet. This was my first hunt in this spot on a new lease. I had scouted the area pretty good and was hunting over a WELL worn trail. I fully expected the deer to come out on my right and pass in front of me at about 20 yards. So, with about 20 minutes to go before sunset, I was shocked to hear a twig snap directly behind me. I slowly turned my head and saw a doe looking up at me at about 15 yards. I waited for her to look down, and SLOWLY turned my head back around. At this point, I expect her to come out right underneath me. After what felt like an eternity (probably more like 5 minutes) I hear a noise to my left. Sadly, this doe is about 40 yards out and all I see is the white flag. But, before I can be too disappointed, I catch movement at about 10 yards to my left. Slightly quartering away... arrow slung... doe runs 30 yards and crashes. I was stoked and visibly shaking; literally, like I was freezing! This is my 5th total deer harvest in the 4 years since my wife bought me a bow for my birthday and I took up this sport.. Meat in the freezer...
