This evening I shot a decent deer. He is a 8 point and both brows are split. Anyways he was almost directly under my stand so when I shot arrow went in his back almost where it flattens out from his neck and the arrow is angled from there towards his penis. Saw about 6 inches of arrow sticking out his back. We tracked a little while after waiting 1 hour then decided to go back in the morning. I honestly don't see how he can live. That broadhead should be doing some damage every step he takes. Oh yeah with arrow down his back like that there wasn't much blood. So what do you guys think??
    Thanks for any advice

1-don't take that kind of shot again
2-My first bow shot on a deer was just like yours, straight down. I looked for two days until I found that buck. His intestines had plugged his exit wound, leaving me without any blood after 75 yards.

I wish you good luck, but expect it to be extremely difficult to find that buck.

I'd say u r right about being hard to find. After I shot I wished I didn't but to be honest I was going for the spine. I wish someone lived around Jackson Ohio that had one of those tracking dogs. I know it's not a monster but I believe a man should try everything possible to find the animal you shot.

Should have never taken that shot to begin with. With that said, hopefully you find him at least.

Well seems like nobody likes that shot. I know it's is by far the best shot to take but I figured it would be a deadly shot. Make it alot better if arrow would have came out the belly.

I'm curious WHY you took that shot?
From your responses I'm guessing you didn't know that was a poor shot. But was he obscured by brush until then, came in from behind and you couldn't get turned around etc.
To answer your question, yes he's dead.

Ditto what the others have said. Very poor shot selection. Bad shots can happen when high percentage shots are taken, but when we intentionally take a low percentage shot...thats not a good thing. Only thing I can figure is that I think some folks feel they have to take some sort of shot when they have a deer in range, especially a decent buck. Better to wait for a high percentage shot, always.....or you have no shot.

I too think he's dead, but likely will be a tough find. You said you tracked him for a little while. Depending on how far you tracked him and whether or not you bumped him will likely have a big impact on if you find him, and how far he went. Good luck finding him.

How far was he and how high up were you?

My initial thought is it's a single lung. Possibly some liver or guts if it angled back enough. If you just got one lung, he can live. Either way, it would most likely have taken him a while to expire.

Keep looking. Then look some more. But I don't like the chances. Please prove me wrong...

He's going to die, when is the question, and how far. Definitely should've waited longer before tracking him. But it happens. I wish you luck though, and this is how we learn man. Good luck again.

Dead deer - very hard to track if not impossible - get a crew together and blanket the area and do a grid search. Hopefully you know the lay of the land well enough and have a good idea of where he may go to hole up and the preferred escape route to those areas. Generally he should be heading toward water, good cover, and taking the easiest route possible(likely downhill). Not sure why you couldn't just wait a minute or 2 for him to present a better shot.

Not something any reasonable bowhunter will defend, in my opinion. Get out there and find him.

Lol I guess I should not be bowhunting. Obviously I shot a bad shot. Oh well it's all I had before he got in the thick stuff.

Obviously not. If your going to have a joking attitude about making a jackass decision you do not belong out there. Get over the need to kill, learn your equipment, learn the anatomy, notch your tag whether you find him or not. Bad shots happen but when they are done intentionally its inexcusable.

    lol.

I think everyone's beat you up by the shot enough. But it would seem to me that it would be a dead deer. However I wasn't there and I know how things can go really fast which makes it really hard to remember exactly what happened. My advice is to hopefully find your blood trail and take it super slow from there. If after you can't find it or the trail stops to start your grid search. Even if it's by yourself you should make circles around your last point of blood. Good luck!
