Looking to be a pretty good weekend, 80 degree high tomorrow, 60 degree high Saturday. After this weekend, I will have to be home for a weekend and then I will have two long weekends and a regular weekend to finish out the regular archery season. Cameras have been heating up a little the last couple of days, just no shooters on the cell cams at least.
I didn’t have a good plan for the switching winds and it was almost 90 this afternoon so I procrastinated my way out of going tonight. I did buy a solar panel for one of my cameras and am going to go up and mow fire breaks at the private land and hunt the afternoon for my first private land sit tomorrow. Mature do me gives me a 20 yard shot will pry get one I want to test my broad heads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I went out this evening even though it was 40 mph wind gusts just so I could say I went out this weekend. I tried a new box blind we had put out this summer and didn’t see a deer but the cloth box didn’t do to bad in the wind. 0-3 on deer sighted so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Heading out this evening with a perfect wind and tonight a low of 31. Right now raining so the bucks should be out refreshing scrapes after it is done this evening.
It was a crazy slow weekend for me. Only two deer that offered up shots were fawns. Moved some cameras around to try and get some intel. No hunting for me this weekend, but a long weekend to follow. Crop rotations seem to be the culprit and I'm not quite sure why I never put it together fully before. Going to be looking at the cameras over the next two weeks to confirm my suspicions and observations after some scouting and then make a plan for the long weekend. Next year will be my 20th season hunting, all on the same property and I never really picked up that every other year being slow coincided with beans surrounding our woods on 3 sides and the neighbors being corn. I always saw just enough to make me not question it, but this year has been uncharacteristically slow and cameras have been dead.
How well do you know the farmer? If you can talking into leaving you a acre of beans somewhere strategic late season you could have all the deer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only two more weekends with work following before my two week marathon of deer chasing. I have had a lot of success over the years the last two weeks of October too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Farmer is a good family friend and we have done that in the past with him. This year everything dried super fast I guess and some were still green when he harvested so there's maybe 2-3 acres left in different areas that he didn't harvest. I will definitely be keying in on them once that time comes, but until then, I will be trying out some areas we typically don't hunt all that much when the conditions allow.
I just checked some camera's and my my what a surprise.... These pics are from 2022 I call this one DeadEye since his right eye bad. That other buck is his running buddy. Here are the two bucks this year... ol' DeadEye is a big freak and the other buck went downhill some as far as points go, otherwise his rack has stayed the same.
This is the deer I was hopeing to show up to this location. I’m confident he will walk within range of my stands this year it’s just about me being there without him knowing.
Had a doe and fawn sneak by me on public this evening. The way it played out I wasn’t sure if the first deer was a fawn or not so she got by me but I got a better look as she left and it may have been a 2 year old doe. I left my stand hopefully she does the same thing tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ended up not seeing a deer Sunday afternoon. Will probably do another hunt on private this weekend try to get a deer down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hunted up at the lease this past weekend with not much luck. That moon was just so bright, had them things moving at weird times, mainly nighttime if you can call it that. I took my uncle most of the weekend, trying to get him his first buck with his crossbow. We want to get him killing one on camera... I think that would be really awesome! The weekend before he went on a draw hunt and was able to kill his first wild hog (ever) and first deer with his crossbow. I'm hoping with the rut about to kick off, maybe one of the big bucks we have on the lease will come by and he can a shot. It's hot here in Oklahoma. We need some rain and a cold front bad!!!
