Congrats on the does guys, off to a strong start! Keep it up, you guys are doing great!

Little check in, I've been out a couple times. It's been a little slow, Ive had one opportunity to get aggressive with the days I've had and the weather. I am on a pretty good buck, but I'm waiting on the right conditions again to get in there and set up on him.

Also, only a few weeks away from the Iowa trip. The house is booked from October 28th thru November 10th. Though I'm not sure what day I'll leave for Iowa yet. It's going to be hard to leave this buck if I haven't had an opportunity on him by then.

I have a good feeling that at least one of us will put a nice buck on the board Sunday. I went out to practice some ultra close shots from the tree stand this afternoon. My bow string caught my range finder, hit my arm, and de-railed. I rushed it to the bow shop. I'll be using my crossbow this weekend. 20241009_144324.jpg

Second sit of the year. Already covered in deer. 8 doe/fawns and a basket 8. Had deer come in while on the top step of my enclosed blind debating whether or not to enter as a wasp nest was staring me in the face at the same time. IMG_4648.png IMG_4649.png IMG_4650.jpeg

I’m kind of in the same boat, have a target deer here in OH that just showed up on cam (been waiting for him). I leave for IL on 11/8 and hoping to close the deal before then.

Well, had a good sit. Saw a lot of deer and 5 little bucks. Had a decent 9 at 60 yards, but he just kind of surveyed the plot and wouldn’t come closer. He was directly upwind, but seems like he sensed me there. Never spooked, but just acted real cautious before walking off. Probably around 120”-125”. Nice deer, but probably not a shooter for me anyway. Probably won’t get out again for over a week. Busy with kids sports stuff and don’t want to hunt too much before it starts getting good.
Good luck out there fellas. Keep grinding and adding doe to the card before the bucks start falling.

Hunted the other day and missed a doe at 30yds. Not sure what happened but I’m going to shoot the bow this weekend to make sure it wasn’t the bow. Next week the weather is looking amazing so I’m looking at 2-3 days of hunting. A doe is going down!! Most of my target bucks are MIA for the last 2 weeks but you never know what will show up. I always hunt a full week at the beginning of Nov as well so still lots of seat time before rifle season.

I picked up my bow from the shop today. Good news, nothing was damaged in the derailment.

A lot of Michigan has been getting hit pretty hard with EHD but luckily most of the areas I hunt are still looking pretty good. I get asked a lot why my properties are all over the county and I don’t try to focus on one area. I learned fast in 2012 when we got hit really bad and started branching out more and more.

I’m up tonight sitting in an oak flat in a strip of woods that has corn on the North and south and swamps to the east and west. It’s loaded with both acorns and sign, from the tree I stopped counting rubs at 42. Last day at f the red moon then a couple days of warm weather so I’m hoping for a little magic tonight. He’s the one I’m after tonight but he walked out of here this morning so I’m not overly confident in seeing him. WGI_0162.jpeg WGI_0163.jpeg

It's the first time hunting this stand this season. It's a big oak flat on top of a long ridge. SSE wind, 90°. DeerCast forecast is poor, and the cows were bedded in the fields. Maybe I'll see some action just before sunset. 20241012_160738.jpg

Had a couple good hunts today. Shot another doe this morning and got my blood hounds (kids) involved on the track. IMG_0575.jpeg

Then tonight the weather got kind of nasty but as soon as the rain stopped the flood gates opened. Had 2 does and a fawn work in to 10-15 yards and I look down the trail that they came in on and a shooter was right behind them. The does work their way out to 35 yards and then worked off. The buck hit their trail around 40 yards and he made up his mind in a hurry what he wanted to do. WGI_0041.jpeg

Good luck man, time for redemption!

I’m pretty sure that I’m feeling a tickle in my throat so I don’t think I’ll be able to work tomorrow .

What a **** show of a morning!! Doe comes out at 28yds and I miss. 45 min later 6 does and a spike come in and a doe gives me a 18yds broadside and I missed again. WTF!!! All this by 8am. I have the IQ sight (which I love, had it about 7 years) and the dot was right in the middle and a nice green circle. I’m done for the day. Going home and going to try and figure this out. Hopefully be back out for Tuesday/wed all day.

I had a small 6 point and a spike at ten yards yesterday evening. I let them walk. Won't be able to hunt again until the weekend.

I saw this in the lfts thread but there was enough going on in there. Have you had your bow tuned recently, new string, anything like that?

No changes in at least 5 years. I shoot 100s of field tips a year and they have always been great but I never tried the board heads again since I tried them when I got them. I’m confident it was the broad heads since when I got home it was very high and right (almost off the target) with the broad heads and within a few inches with field tips. I switched broad heads for a different brand and I’m down to sub 6” group with 2 field tips and 1 broad head in a group with no other changes. I think I must have some how bent a blade or something on the old ones to cause them to go out like that. This is my last group of the night at 30yds. Don’t recall which but one is broad head and 2 are field tips. I’m happy with that.
