He looks like he's not busted up. This is a better picture of his rack earlier in the season. Sent from my SM-G990U1 using Tapatalk
Well boys, needed this one after my mishaps the past two seasons. Wish there was a great story, but literally had him on camera as I was heading to my stand. Thankfully a couple doe were a lot further out in the field and they spooked back to the woods and cleared the field somewhat “naturally”. Was hoping my hunt wasn’t shot and my instincts were correct. The doe funneled back out within 10 minutes of getting in my elevated blind. Didn’t even have the windows open and he came in and started scratching for the clover and brassica. He was at 25 yards for 3-4 minutes facing me and finally turned broadside and I took my time. and made it count. He went about 50 yards and died just out of sight. First ever late season mature buck harvest so pretty excited. .
Definitely the closest I’ve been to winning this contest. It’s been fun! Who we got left hunting yet? Making a late push but need another buck and a few doe probably. The leading team is definitely a volume team vs a quality team. Our team has a bunch of really nice deer. Regardless, it’s been fun and I’ve enjoyed the season with you fellas!
I'm still hunting. I'll be able to hunt only on Sundays for the most part. I may get out New Years day and should be off work Saturday, January 11, for the last weekend of the contest. Oklahoma season closes January 15, and Arkansas is the end of February. Sent from my SM-G990U1 using Tapatalk
Congrats Aaron! I am currently headed to our lease in IL. Hoping to score on a late season buck! Not the most ideal weather with highs in 50’s but hopefully something wonders buy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Happy New Year, guys! I'm out the 1st day of 2025. Big weather changes in store starting this weekend. Next week, we'll be lucky if temperatures make it above freezing for a high. Sent from my SM-G990U1 using Tapatalk
No luck in IL for us. 50 deg and rain most of the time. Did get the big 8pt on came while we were there. He hasn't been on a camera for over a month. Still have 3 more weekends to try and get some points on the board.
Good news is the buck that I have been waiting to show up finally did and he may go gross boone! Bad news is its muzzleloader season and I could kill him now. If I don't kill him in the next two days, I will make a game plan to get a setup close enough for the bow. He only comes to this farm to winter. Zero pics of him all throughout last year and this year (until now) but found his shed in April. We have 4 acres of standing corn and multiple other small plots on this 100 acre farm.
So, he was a no show the last two evenings while out with the muzzy. Going to make a plan this week to try and get on him this Friday-Sunday. All weekend archery hunting now until end of season, unless he makes a move that will make me take some vaca time from work through the week.
Anyone with doe tags left that has not submitted one? I still have mine, which I plan on filling before the end of the month.
I believe we’ve still got 4 or 5 doe tags open. Kind of hard telling with guys kind of falling off as soon as the season started. Good luck going after that buck man!
We got 6" of snow last night and this morning. Unfortunately, because of the weather, I will be working tomorrow. Sunday will be my last chance to hunt in Oklahoma. I plan to hunt all day and probably won't be too picky. If it's brown, it's down! Sent from my SM-G990U1 using Tapatalk
No luck this morning. I'm back out this afternoon. It is rare that I get to hunt these conditions. There are tracks everywhere around my stand. I'm just waiting for one to give me a chance. Sent from my SM-G990U1 using Tapatalk
