Well for me it’s dark 2 dark for the next 5 days before rifle season. I finally got my target buck on camera again during daylight so it’s down to sit and hope but I’m in the right area. The 2 cameras I have day pic are about 150yds apart and impossible to see between so I’m going to hang a camera between them and see if I can pin him down more.

I took to the woods with a rifle this weekend. I harvested a doe for the freezer. My granddaughter's boyfriend took his first deer ever yesterday. It was great to be a part of his hunt and help teach him to field dress a deer. I was there for my son and two granddaughter's firsts as well. It is important that we as hunters pass along our love of the sport. I'll be back out with a bow this weekend. IMG_3186.jpg

Been slow here in IL, a lot of scrubs to 130” deer. Haven’t seen a 4yr old or older yet.

Got some really encouraging news from the neighbor. The buck I hit showed up on their camera today and is doing much better. He’s got a good slice in his front leg but it appears to be healing decently and I think he will make it! Never thought in a million years he would recover from that fully, but it just speaks to the toughness of these animals.

I had given up on the idea of shooting a different buck, but given the fact that I have this new evidence, I will continue my pursuit to fill my buck tag and maybe even get another crack at him in the process. Gun season isn’t for another two weekends so I will be out Saturday and Sunday, conditions permitting.

Next week is looking good for my vacation. A cold front is coming in, and I will be bow hunting in Oklahoma until next Saturday when rifle season begins. Hopefully, I'll have an opportunity on a good buck. I still have plenty for time to kill a doe. Screenshot_20241112_223310_DuckDuckGo.jpg

Rattled a shooter in Thursday morning. He came in so quick that he was already through my 17 yd shooting lane and stopped him at 27yds. Settled the pin and hit him a little high and forward, shoulder… got 7” of penetration. Looked that afternoon and found him bedded 150yds away. Snuck out and returned the next morning to him gone and nowhere to be seen. Looked yesterday till late afternoon and called the search off. Hopefully he’s not mortally wounded and is seen again.
Last day to hunt here before returning to OH tomorrow.

I'm doing a little rifle hunting this afternoon ahead of the cold front. Tomorrow, there is a 100% chance of rain. I'll be back in Oklahoma with my bow Tuesday - Friday, going after one of my target bucks.

Going to use this week to catch up at work and just reset after 10 days gone. Literally seen somewhere around 30-40 different bucks while in IL with most of them being 3 yr olds and younger. The 8pt I was hunting here in OH was killed last week also. Need to get my good mojo back and unleash on a doe this weekend.

Ok so just an update on the season. I did 2-3 weeks all day sits trying to get my target buck. The 14h and 15th were the last 2 days of bow season before rifle season and I did see him in person at about 150yds both days. Rifle season started the 16th and I got myself a nice 145 1/4” 10p. I did see a few nice bucks coming from the same spot he came from so this week I’m going to put up a camera to see what else is there. Bow season opens back up on the 27th until Jan 15th. I will be back in the stand but I will be pulling my SD cards to see what survived and go from there as to what I will be chasing.

    Good evening guys!

Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for being MIA. I've been getting out here and there. I was actually able to kill another doe this weekend.
I have a couple bucks on camera but nothing I'm willing to shoot. Maybe I'll get lucky and a big one will show.
