Congrats MIHOYT! This is going to be a good day for team 1! Story later, on my way to UW Hospital for an eye appt for my wife.
Congratulations, you two! Way to put them down. I've been laid up on the couch all week, but my back is much better. They are forecasting rain for the next three day. Tuesday morning winds of the WSW, which is a good wind for my best stand in Oklahoma. I should be healed up enough to make it out. Sent from my SM-G990U1 using Tapatalk
Hey fellas, sorry about the delay, had to take my wife up to UW Health for an eye appt. We had a good cold front go through yesterday and had 40 mph wind gusts. Wind died down during the night and temp got down to low 30's. Beautiful morning, saw two does go by around 8 but on neighbors property, was going to have to leave early , about 9 or 9:30. Around 8:45 14 turkeys came in and stayed around.Watching them for about 15 minutes and looked left and there he was at 15 yards, let him take a few more steps and let him have it. He absolutely left a red carpet for 20-25 yds. Got both lungs and nicked the heart.
Way to go fellas! Hopefully I can join you soon. I’ve had 4 different shooters inside of 60 yards between yesterday and today. They are on does hard by me and just need the doe to bring them closer. Niece is getting married tomorrow (who schedules a wedding on Nov 2nd!!!!) but I’ll be out in the AM. I have been so close. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
Well fellas. Loosed an arrow at a pretty nice 10 this AM @ 9:38. Shot unfortunately looked a bit lower than I wanted and the arrow told the same story. Decent blood and I’ll have a video at 4:00 PM once my camera transmits to hopefully make a better determination. Hoping I knicked heart depending on how the broadhead entered. Going to my nieces wedding and then I may have a drone meet me @ midnight. Just not feeling great, but holding out hope that I somehow caught the bottom of the heart. I’ll keep you posted, but don’t expect news before tomorrow probably. Feeling sick as we all do when we don’t make the shot we wanted. Fingers crossed!
Update: Buck was alive in a bed not far from where I shot him. Heading out late morning to search the area. Either he will be dead in his bed, or he will likely live, albeit not in great shape. Holding out hope that I either find him or he had the strength to get on his feet and resume life. Hate this part of the chase, but still trying to be optimistic.
Congrats to the killers! Y’all are putting them down! Good luck on the track! It’s been super slow for me, hoping it picks up this evening. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Forgot to add this picture the other day, this picture was snapped about 5 seconds before I cut the arrow loose.
Well, good news and bad news. Bad news: My buck has not been recovered and he is still alive. Good news: I got to within 10 yards of him bedded, but didn’t have a shot because of course, he’s in the thickest crap known to man. I literally was staring at his body and rack behind a big tree trunk and branches for like 3 minutes figuring out how I was going to get a shot. It’s so thick and I needed to step to the side to maybe try and get one in his femoral artery as his vitals were completely covered by a big tree. While I was contemplating how I was going to do it, he stumbled to his feet and ambled away very slowly and clumsily. He had something hanging down from where I hit him. Couldn’t make out what it was as he was hobbling away. He went maybe 30 yards and stopped. It’s so thick I just couldn’t see him after that. I didn’t want to keep pushing him as this cover remains thick for several hundred yards. As much as it pained me to continue to leave the animal suffer, I felt I had no choice. I’m leaving him for 24 more hours and returning with the drone as soon as it gets dark tomorrow night. Stay tuned. Really hoping to close this chapter. More good news, he’s bigger than I thought. We really want me to recover this deer. Not giant but I’m thinking 140+. I’ll keep everyone posted.
Way to keep after it! He’s obviously feeling it, do you think another 24 hours would be needed? Not questioning your decision at all, just curious if it would be doable or possible to be the drone out an hour before light tomorrow morning.
I was debating that, but wanted to give him time. He may be dead in the AM, but between work obligations and drone schedule, this is what I felt was best for all parties involved. I’m obviously worried about coyotes and don’t want this animal to suffer, but he’s so hard to get at where he is. Trust me, all these scenarios are playing out in my head. This is just my gut feeling with all factors involved.
I fully understand. It’s definitely the toughest part of bow hunting. I figured you had probably thought about it but just wanted to throw it out there, we all know too well all the scenarios that are running through your head. Whatever you end up doing good luck!
