send some of them over here. we have no ratio anymore except few and far in between. Sux, that's how it used to be here, but the frikin DNR and their CWD bullsh#! and eliminating the population has put a hell of a dent in the pop.

Was out this morning in a new area trying to call in a moose. Was there since 6 am in the rain finally stopped at 7:30. So I had some branches breaking and some grunts off in the distance. Thinking finally here we go, now I have to mention this area I was hunting is now in season for rifle as well and its in this valley in which a dirt road runs through. It gets to about 9 am and I'm hoping he's going to come within the kill zone. Then Bam, up shows the orange army on the road with 6 big trucks come rolling in hauling quads and stop right on the road staring at the moose we are calling in. Moose takes off, I swear a lot and get in my truck and leave. Decided to head back to our regular area that's still archery only and I decide to check out a new area. I got a good feeling about it cause I know there are moose in this area, I'm one of a few that has permission to hunt there and it doen't look like anyone's been using it cause its kind of hidden. As we were heading in though I might add the guy I was hunting with said we should take our bows in case and I was like were not going to see anything I didnt even want to go that far in anyway. Boom a nice doe runs by in front of me 20 yards turns with a broadside shot and then takes off. Heading back this afternoon, crossing my fingers.

Yeah I wish it was that easy. The ratio is insane and needs to be controlled. Shot 1 doe this morning and hoping for 2-3 more this weekend.

Alright I am going to vent for a minute. I went out for my afternoon/evening hunt and as I arrived to my stand I realized another guy was hunting the marsh about 80 yards away. Instead of freshening up my mock scrape and setting another camera I decided to skip it and get in my stand as fast as possible without interrupting the other guys hunt. The evening turned out to be a bust but the frustration started shortly before sundown. About 10 minutes before sunset(we can hunt till 30 minutes after sunset) I hear noise and see corn moving. All of a sudden a guy in jeans and sweatshirt(zero camo) comes out of the woods and walked into the marsh. About half way through I think he sees me and turns around and walks off. Just as this happens the guy in the stand behind me starts getting down. All is still alright with me at this point then all of a sudden the ******* behind me starts walking towards me and cuts right in front of me. His stand is 10 yards from the corn field behind him and a very easy way out and back to his truck. At this point I am beyond pissed. I start yelling at him and telling him to go **** himself. 6 hours later I am still pissed about it. A dozen beers later didn't help either. I have a nice way to my stand that will from now on take me right under his stand whenever I see his truck.

Should've gone to the lease Fergie! The does are hammering your bean fields right now. Randy saw a dozen or more of them funnel in there last night.

I only hunted yesterday and my action was pretty slow. Saw a 1.5 year old buck in the AM and 3-4 does in the PM. Today was family day at the pumpkin patch so I relaxed, did that, and watched some football. I can't hunt next weekend either but may try to sneak out Weds or Thurs afternoon for an afternoon hunt to get my fix.

I feel for you Ferg, had guys come rolling in on quads as I was calling in a bull moose from across the river where I was sitting two nights ago. He stopped right at the rivers edge and was letting out some grunts. Guess some young guys on quads herd the noise and came rolling in yelling "I think there's something down this way". Stopped about 100 yards behind me with their bikes still running. Needless to say the Bull left and with 1 hour left of legal hunting time I called it a night.

congratulations there hardwds! awesome some more pts for the team.

Ferg there is never a short supply of ignorance in this world. I'm thinkn more like a nice steamer under his stand!

I checked out he new property. Looks promising. I found the other guys' stands in the section of woods I'm hunting. I'll actually set up the farthest away near the adjoining property fence line. The neighbor has a stand there but facing into his property, I'd say for gun hunting (nothing's been trimmed around it). I did find what I believe is a fresh set up scrapes under an overhaning branch. So i'll get out there next week with my stand, but Wed or Fri I'll go out and put up a mock scrape and a drip to entice that boy in a little more. There is some deer scat around. I'm on top of the narrowest part of a funnel/ridge between two fields which I think is a good choke point. I'm putting a stand up in just about the middle. Hopefully I'll trim a shooting lane or two. There are a lot of yotes around too. I spoke to the farm hand and he asked if I shoot turks and he said to shoot as many as possible.:jaw: can you say :jaw:? man this is a dream, can't be happening. I'll keep you all posted on what happens there. I did go out this morning to my reg spot, and not a sound coimng out. I think this place is really better in evenings.

good luck to everyone else out there. Congrats again Hdwds.

Well, my wife and I hunted yesterday evening. It was a sloppy, muddy mess, but she wanted to go. I moved a stand for her and trimmed some shooting lanes. The setup looked really good and she had a perfect wind. I got her all settled in and then went to a stand of mine on the other side of the property. About 10 til 3 she texted me, saying she shot a big doe. She was afraid that she hit the shoulder though. Before I could even get down and head that way it started pouring down rain. I was pretty concerned immediately. We found her arrow about 30 yards from the shot and it had about 2-2.5 inches broke off. We started looking and looking, but of course there wasn't a single drop of blood. We looked for a couple of hours going in circles, but found nothing. From the looks of things I'm pretty certain that she drilled the shoulder and didn't get any penetration. She was so bummed out and felt awful. Hopefully the doe is gonna make it. I have a camera on the mowed path where she came out with her 3 fawns, so if she does make it I'm fairly certain I will get some pics of her.

On a more positive note, I'll be back in the stand on Thursday and Friday. I'm so ready for my vacation to get here and hunt for about 12 days straight of pre-rut and rut. It's gonna be awesome to see the end of this month. Good luck to everybody!

Damn thats a bummer Jake! It's never fun to go through that, tell her to keep her head up and keep at it!!!

As for my encounter on Sunday. I'm a bit torn on the outcome and am not sure if I made the right call. I passed on a old mature deer. A goal I have been trying to accomplish for some time now, hunting and harvesting an old mature buck. I heard him trotting through the woods and look to my left to see him coming through the brush at a good speed. It was such a big bodied deer I was almost certain it was Flyer, the number one buck at this properly that I would be delighted to get a crack at! Once he stepped out fully, I saw his rack and boy did I get disappointed, but at the same time so darn excited with how cool it was. It was a mature Spike Buck. His tines were about 15 inches in length and had good mass to them. they curved out and then back in, like a parentheses. I stop him at 25 yards, second guessed it all and passed on him. Since then I can get that unique big bodied old mature deer out of my head! I was aging him at 3.5 years old but when I was talking to the land owner he said the deer is 5.5 years old and he has been trying to kill him for about 3 years now to get him out of there. After hearing that he was indeed 5 and a half years old, I immediately got sick to my stomach. Yes, he did not have the antler inches I would have liked, but he did have that wow factor being as unique as he is. Also, the fact of how mature he is given his age would make this one heck of a trophy for me. I let these new type of hunting values and how many inches a buck is get to me and I have never been this way. I think if given the opportunity of seeing him again and having a shot, that I will indeed take it!

Alright guys so I finally finished putting together my video from my doe kill this weekend. Boy did I find out how difficult and time consuming this really is. But I loved every second of it and feel such a sense of accomplishment for knowing that I did each part of the process myself in having it all come together. I am hopping to improve and get better with this all as time goes on and I start to do it more and more. Let me know what i can work on to improve and what you think of it! Thanks guys I appreciate it!!! There's a shout out in there to all of you Team 7 guys in the end credits...Just had to rep my bh.com guys!!! :tu:
