Illinois Outdoorsman is in the building! Team Jaun!! A brief intro, my name is Matt, I'll be hunting public land and a 20 acre private tract in and around Peoria County, IL. 5 years active duty Marine Corps 2000-2005. Been working law enforcement the past 10 years, married with 2 kids. Have yet to wrap my hands around a large buck, which is disappointing as I've been bow hunting for 8 years. Plenty of does though. That's why I'm venturing out of my 20 on to public land. I Do all of my own processing, smoking summer sausage and sticks. Cant wait for October 1st!!! I hope to be a productive member of the team. Scouted a lot during the off season. I'm ready to go
Welcome! Thank you for your service! I think you bring this team up to 3 in LE line of work! Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
Welcome Matt and thank for your service. Sounds like you are due for a big buck or whatever buck makes you happy! Remember to always hunt according to your own goals and not what others set. Sent from my XT1650 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
The 20 acre tract I've been hunting all these years is a pass through property with poor sandy soil. Never did the work to put in food, only bonus was a small water hole. I've spent hours upon hours going over topo maps and satellite maps of surrounding public land, and taken numerous trips into the woods looking for sign. I'm feeling pretty confident this year. Ready for some tree stand therapy.
Matt, good luck brother! Public land hunter here myself. I will be hunting a lot new grounds this year due to a move. Will be challenging, but that is what makes it fun.
Checking in from Virginia. I hunt family land in Surry county, VA. I’ve planed an acre of clover and chickory and the deer have been loving it. The county always produces big bucks so hopefully I can put an arrow thru one this season. Still have a month until the season opener so I’m just watching and waiting. Looking g forward to see what the team can do this season
Karthur. Sorry to tell you but since you haven't checked in for so long you were replaced. Several off us sent you messages but you didnt respond. Make contact in the alternates thread and maybe they can put you on another team. Best of luck this season. I'll also send you a private message. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Hey wibowhntr, how did "move in day" for your son go? Hopefully didnt get caught up in any one of the wonderful thunderstorm/tornado we had in the area? Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
He actually had to be back at Point on August 19th because he is a CA this year. I missed out on helping him move back in because I was at a business golf outing. He said the move-in days were crazy busy. Sent from my XT1650 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Couldnt help but notice you mentioned Point. I may be an Illinois Outdoorsman but I grew up in Point, graduated from SPASH. Transplanted to IL after. Miss the northwoods. Still get back quite a bit. Small world.
Well, i checked the trail cameras....theres a new player in town! Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
Plot looks amazing after all the rain we have had, have a nice scrape already started (early this year), and ground under the licking branch is worn nearly bare already. Cow path deer trails have begun to emerge! Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
Ok ok...heres the highlights of the rest of the trail cam pics! Been almost a month since last checked..."Splits" was only on camera once at 9PM....bummer, will have to wait for the rut for him to show most likely Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
Funny thing is my wife is an Illinois transplant... Belvidere. Sent from my XT1650 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
If I could move back I would but my feet are firmly planted until retirement. Still visit family and vacation up north. Illinois just doesnt compare
That is one thing I am very thankful for is my wife has never had the desire to move back to Illinois by her family. It's ok for a short visit but nice to come back home. I guess you could say I am very spoiled to have thousands of acres of public land within a half hour of where I live. Sent from my XT1650 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
