Well it is not looking good for me this year. Gun season started on the 15th and there was some good action most of the day. At one point I passed up on a nice 2.5-3.5 year old and a little 1 point my dad later accidentally shot thinking it was a doe. His first deer in almost 20 years so I am grateful he at least got it done. My second day of gun season it was nearly 22 degrees and snowing all day, action was slow and I only saw one doe. When the doe gave me a broadside shot my Ruger .450 gave me the ol'click and no boom. I attempted to reload but she never gave me another opportunity. That was the only deer I saw all day. I may try and get out later in the year for one more bow hunt but our property usually dies off after gun season. one neighbor of our took 6 shots at one deer lol.
I’m hunting still - but giving back to the sport a bit... I took a buddy out hunting for the gun opener that has never hunted before. I don’t gun hunt anymore so I took him out - we sat on the ground and we saw 7 deer! 3 small’ish bucks. I think it was a big success. I’ve got a brother-in-law in his late 30’s that has been duck hunting but never deer hunting that wants me to take him out in the morning. So I’m pretty much going to give up my weekend hunts - after my tough season and missing that buck it’s really helping me get back to my roots and why/how I got into hunting myself reasonably later in life. (20 yrs). Hope ya’all are having a blast!!
Thats awesome last week when my buddy put one down i was as excited as i have ever been for one of mine, and hes not even a "new" hunter, enjoy those hunts! Sent from my SM-G930P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Saw 7 this morning with the Rookie and one absolute shooter - 140”+ for sure. 125 yards couldn’t get him in range for the 12g. Oh well - was a pair of great first hunt for good buddies. Back in the stand with my bow tonight. I will be at it until I fill a tag or not... Will be at it either way doing what I love!
15 yd shot...ran 30 yds and was still running when she flopped... Thank you sister doe for your sacrifice and feeding me and my family...i will be for ever greatful... Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
So my other half bagged & tagged a little 8 pt with rifle. I go o it the feeling after was all said & done he felt bad for having taken it. Was a buck we did not have on camera before. I'm sure with all the pressure in the area, the buck was on the move. He shot & hit it high shoulder. Should have been done right there with the 300 WSM...buck ran so he shot & hit it again in the front of the chest. Buck continued to run&crashed a short distance away. He figured it was a drive deal&climbed down. Once at the bottom of the tree, he sees the buck getting up!he shoots again! Vycks stays down. He walks over & goes to grab the horns&the thing lunged at him head/ horns 1st! So he shoots again! Buck finally done...as we are caping him, we find that he had also been shot with an arrow which never penetrated the chest cavity but path of travel was from just behind the right front shoulder down the ribs across the spine & exited just in front of the right hind leg next to the spine. It was pretty darn nasty to say the least! What a fighter this buck was Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
Good luck to all of you this Thanksgiving week. I hope you all have some great hunts and time with family.
With shotgun seasons on and off until early Dec my bowhunting is hit or miss. I plan to hunt until I fill my doe tag, or mid Jan. Whichever comes first. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving week. Enjoy your families, and good luck in the woods. Stay safe.
Quit making me look bad. I don't even have one yet! lol :/ Sent from my SM-G950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Good shot man! You are a straight up nightmare in the woods this year, Deer probably running around telling stories about Brett the Ripper... Telling their fawns to fear the Shadow
