No worries guys. I've got plenty of pics with the buck and the bow. Unfortunately the buck was taken to the butcher where he'll be caped out and then the taxidermy process started immediately. Once the butcher calls me to come pick up the meat, I'll also pick up the antlers as the taxidermist won't need them until he's ready to sew them in. Then I'll be able to score him up and officially post him for us.

Went out Friday to whack a doe. Saw 22 the only one close enough came out of the wood straight to my tree. She never offered a broadside shot.

I spent the weekend in the deer woods & boy was it awesome. Saturday evening sitting on the edge of a fresh cut corn field I watch 10+ good up n comer bucks sparring for over an hour. I waited patiently for Tallboy to come join them & right at last light I saw him walk out 150 yrds across the field. I ended up sitting in that stand till around 9pm when they finally made their way to an adjacent field just so I didn't spook them getting down. Sunday afternoon I got in a stand on the side of the field I had seen all the deer filter out of, which is roughly 50 yards inside the timber, in hopes to catch Tallboy staging before dark. I got to the stand right at 4pm, & 20 minutes later Tallboy walked right through at 25 yards. He milled around me for about 20 minutes but I never did get a shot on him. I watched him make 2 scrapes just inside the timber so Im pretty sure if I stay tight to that area Ill be able to arrow him in the coming weeks. I didn't see a single doe this weekend, but the bucks are starting to get aggressive with each other. The next 4 weeks are gonna be awesome in the deer woods, good luck everyone.

Just put in some vacation time for October 30 and 31st and November 6 and 7. Hope to lay one down in one of those 4 day weekends. Haven't been able to dedicate a ton of time for bowhunting yet as I have been having way too much fun bird hunting. But that is what those two weekends are dedicated for. Bow is ready to get out again but I just need to find the time. Should be fun!

So I know I'm a little delayed on the story, but I just haven't had the time to go get the antlers from the taxi so I could score them for the story.

I hung this set back during shed hunting season as I had gotten several pictures of shooters coming out of this particular corner during the 2013 rut. I had ran cameras back there all spring and summer and had seen some decent bucks. I really had my hopes up for this stand. So much in fact that I had every intention of saving this stand until the rut was really kicking in. Our season started 10/1 and I had to work the first 3 days of the season. So the 4th came along and I knew I was not going to hunt that morning as I dont typically like to hunt early season mornings. I feel the chance of bumping a buck on the way in is too great and not worth the risk. As I was doing my final gear prep that morning and afternoon I kept thinking about what stand I wanted to go to. My mind kept going back to this particular stand, even though I knew I wanted to save it for the rut. But the more I thought about it, the more I knew I needed to hunt it. I had gotten great pictures all summer back there, had an active licking branch hanging over the beans in front of me, a big oak dropping acorns to my right, and to my left was the corner of the soy beam field which is a awesome travel corridor. I knew if there was a chance one of the bucks from the summer was hanging around back there still, that would be the night to see him.

So fast forward to about 5pm as I got settled into my tree. I soon had 2 does across the field then 3 move through behind me. It was buck or bust this night as I had zero intentions of blowing this stand on shooting a doe. It was about 6 o'clock when I looked across the field and saw antlers pop up in the beans about 200yds away. After glassing him for several minutes I decided that he was a 4.5yr old around 140". I was going to kill him if given the chance. I watched him feed along the opposite field edge for what seemed like an hour. I really didn't think he would make it to me before it got dark, so I was simultaneously thinking of my exit strategy. As he was feeding along the opposite field edge, he stopped and started working a licking branch. That's when I started to get excited, since I had as other licking branch in front of me. Sure enough once he finished working that branch, he turned and came on a string right towards me. I continued to rang him as he closed the distance... 60... 50...40...30... Then he stopped and turned broadside, but too much brush in the way to shoot. He then proceeded to walk parallel with my field edge which took him into one of my lanes. As he stepped out, I gave him a quick "maah" to stop him. That's when I let the Spyder bite! The Easton Hexx and Ulmer's Edge blew through him! I hit him a touch high, as he ended up being 25 instead of 30yds, but I knew it was below the spine, which meant it was in the lungs. Anxiously I watched as he ran into cover, and then I listened... Crash!!! Turned out he only ran 75 yards before crashing. I had the entire hunt videoed, but unfortunately he stepped just off the frame and I didn't realize it before I shot. He scored 146 4/8".

i just posted it. yesterday afternoon i was hunting under some white oak trees along the lake this buck come in about 30 min before dark 15 yard shot double high lung shot. about 30 seconds after the shot i heard the brush crack to my right in the thicket, i thought it was another deer that spooked after the shot but i kept it in my mind that it could be my deer that went down. but if it was was he would have to have doubled back to the way he come from. i waited 45 mins to get out of the stand and picked up the blood trail about 20 yards from where he was standing. it was not a very good blood trail the biggest spot was about the size of the end of my thumb. it went about 40 yrds and quit, still thinking about the brush cracking i left the last of the blood and headed in that direction in the thicket looking for blood and the deer at same time. i saw some blood on some pine needles then a few more spots and that was it no more blood. i was almost to the spot where i heard the brush cracking i just started walking in that direction after about 15 yards and there he lay.the buck run due north about 60 yards then due west about 30 yards and then due south about 60 yards which put him about 30 yards from where i first saw him.

Sunday night I was hunting & had Tallboy come through my set again. Its the second time Ive seen him during shooting hours in 1 week. I saw him coming through a pinch point I was sitting on. I took a 35 yrd shot at him but missed. After retrieving my arrow after dark I walked off around 45 paces to my arrow which fell short of him. He didn't get wise to me but he did turn around & go back the way he came. After I got back home Sunday night I ordered a bushnell rangefinder from amazon. Next time we meet in the woods Ill have the advantage of KNOWING, not guessing the distance between us.

Hope yall are having fun out there. Be safe.

That's a bummer Jason!! Hopefully you can get another crack at him.

I was out last Friday only seen one little 6. My work load is steadily decreasing so my hunting should ramp up next week. I have my PTO in for my hunting trip; that will put me in the woods Nov 7th - 16th. I'm heading out west this Saturday to pull cards on cameras so hopefully I'll be posting lots of horn porn Sunday night :) stay tuned....
