A little quiet on the home front. Hopefully someone will kill this weekend if anyone is hunting. I'll be checking cams, maybe doing a little shooting and some last little prep for the opener next weekend. Hopefully I'll have some decent pics to post of some big boys.
Went over to my river place. Another week and all the fields will be harvested. It's a month early for them to be out! Not sure how this will affect my hunting. Not hardly any mast either.
Yeah! Got the farm house and the garage cleaned out today. A week ahead of schedule. Free time to deer hunt now.. Come on Oct. 1st!
Got pull ropes up. Just as I figured, the first week the corn piles were a little slow, but they killed the piles this past week knowing they were there now. One of the ratchet straps on that double stand will need replaced. Looking good for the opener next Saturday. Did a little target shooting and was very happy with that. My only issue was my trail cams. They are older cams, so neither one this time gave me any pictures. Pretty disappointed. May have to invest a little into some new cameras here eventually. It wouldn't be so bad if I knew what was on this property but not knowing is a killer. Imagine that, when I started hunting trail cams didn't even exist and every deer that came by was a surprise. Now it's like the deer are our best friend and we call them by name, lol.
These two are still traveling together. They may be in trouble if I don't see any bigger ones in the next two weeks.
Went over to the river place to pull the chip on a cam i set up over a month ago. Had a couple pictures I thought i'd share from the chip.
First official sit. I gotta gun on a nuisance tag though so don’t count for the comp, but it’s good to figure out how to use my saddle again. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums View attachment 178151
I'm going to do a camera check on Friday morning. I'm hoping they worked this time. If not I'll be making my first official sit Saturday morning. I may just decide to take out the nice first doe I see, unless my cams are working and tell me differently. Good luck to everyone else.
Actually I'm doing the camera check Thursday. Let's hope I get pictures. Still planning for Saturday morning though. I should get some hunting time in the first 3 maybe 4 days of the week here and there as well.
One camera worked, other one didn't. I'll have 950 pics to sort through. I'll post anything good later.
My last real year of hunting was 2021 when I lived in Ohio. Then I moved to Florida in spring of 2022 and I really haven't done much hunting since. So, to tell you guys the truth, that 130" walks past me I'm going to be real tempted, lol. Pretty much the same bucks on camera this time as last. I think there was one new 8 that might fall between 115 and 120. Thing about that 130" is he's very camera friendly and still lots of shots of him in daylight. Give me strength, please!
Shawn most folks would be proud to shoot a 130 class buck. If he trips you trigger go for it. After you take a couple big ones you can get so selective that it takes some of the joy out of hunting. Remember it's suppose to be fun.
I know what you are saying. I've been hunting awhile, well not a lot since 21', but I was putting down some pretty nice bucks regularly for almost 10 straight years. Then you get away from that even for a couple years and you already feel that excitement for that 130" buck when for so long you were used to saying man, in 2 years he'll be a monster. I'm not so sure I want to do that this year. We'll see what happens once I'm up in the stand. I know my grand sons would love to kill those bucks so it may not be that hard to hold off on them.
This is the first year I don't have stands or cameras out. Going in blind. And I think I'll be just fine.
I'll be in the stand a little over 12 hours from now! Boo yah! Anyone else hunting tomorrow? Good luck if you are!
