This has been the toughest year I can remember. We had 6 shooters on camera this summer in Wisconsin and with the drought all summer we were hit bad with EHD. All of the big bucks have been gone since late August so I’m guessing they are dead in the neighbors swamp. The one mature buck in Minnesota has been MIA since late summer as well. I’m hoping something comes in during late season still. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have a couple of bucks to chase.
Sorry to hear that Tom. EHD hit here in Indiana also, but it was mainly up north. I can say that this is the first year in a long time that I didn’t have a buck over 150 to chase before the season started.
Tomorrow is the start of the two week gun season here in Indiana. We're a one buck state. Takes a special draw to take another buck. So I'm doe hunting with the 357. I may get back out during late archery. Stay safe out there fellas.
Youth gun season this weekend in Ohio. Won't be out this weekend. Good luck to everyone hitting it this weekend.
Got a picture of the doe I shot. Man I was way far back and high with the shot. Figure she was moving and dropped at the shot. Nice to know she made it.

Well went out this evening had a nice buck come in pushing a doe. Took a quartering away frontal but not sure how it hit. 4 options. I hit the shoulder torwards me and a non-lethal shot. Or hit brisket with little penitration non-lethal. Other two entered where i aimed front of shoulder and stuck off side shoulder lethal, hit brisket with enough penitration to hit heart lethal. Looked for arrow where he went into trees thinking it would of broke off and seen no arrow or blood. Watch him spin and run hard like a heart shot and never seen him again. Going to get into stand in am bout 9 if i havent seen him ill look.
He wouldnt turn so it was let down and spook or take the shot. I felt super comfortable with it so i took it. But he either ran through a little timber into crp or standing corn. Figure morning sit will tell me if he is pushing the doe again or dead.
Hope all you guys are doing well and hunting hard! I still have a doe tag to fill so I'm hoping to get out a time or three before Thanksgiving to fill that tag and while I'm out my grandsons can tag along and try and slap one of their tags on something as well. Good luck! We need some more doe's to be taken out and a couple nice bucks abd we'll be right in this thing!
I'm heading back to Kansas this Sunday any decent buck is getting an arrow. I'll shoot a doe in the back yard as soon as I get the chance.
Sorry guys i search all day 0 blood followed what i took as his track through the creek and grid search after. Either he went a long ways with no blood hard to track or hit solid shoulder. Be at them again this weekend then off till after gun season.
I had a big nanny doe at 19 yards tonight. Drew back and my arrow looked like it was going to clip my blind. My son had it turned just a little wonky where the rifle windows was towards the corn and not the bow windows. Back at it tomorrow after a little adjustment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just wondering how many of you guys will still be getting after them with the bow? I know late season can be mentally and physically challenging, but if you are prepared it can make for some great hunting.
Season is open here until Feb. 10th, the rut doesn't happen until late Jan. into Feb. Seems like lately coyotes and hogs have pushed a lot of my deer herd off the property, hopefully that changes soon.
Well, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! If anyone is hunting this holiday weekend, happy hunting as well! We've still got points to put on the board!
Happy thanksgiving. I’ll be headed back out tomorrow to try and get something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
