Kids are done.... 4 year old needs to learn alittle more patience and 6 is happy. She tracked my buck last year and watched me in stand shoot that guy.
I do feel bad though. I would of done that over and over. Smallest ive ever entered, besides a 0. But ive been trying to redeem myself with my daughter in stand for 4 years. Size doesnt matter for that.
Also sorry about being mia. Im from ne nebraska originally. Grew up sitting on a hill with a rifle. Found love and ended up in south central iowa. Ive got 3 kids girls are 6 & 4 baby boy will be 2. My passion went from hunting to getting my kids out. My boy holding the 350 by himself.
Well finally got out and I swung and missed. Missed judged distance. I shot 30 he was closer to 40. Oh well we’ll try again maybe Thursday but it’s supposed to be in the high 70s low 80s the rest of the week.
At last light I had a tall brow narrow racked 8 point come in. His brow tines were taller than his 2's and 3's and he maybe had a 10" spread at best. In a couple years I think this buck will have a pretty cool looking rack. I'll post the pics from when he was by my stand here later. Also, a new 8 pointer showed up. I'm sure he's pushing 130". I'd definitely like a crack at him in the morning.
Here's pics of that taller browed narrow racked 8 that was tempting me, then here is a few pics of that bigger new 8 that just showed up recently.
Well I was headed to Colorado this morning but a record snow storm has all the roads in shut down. So now we’re headed to Kansas to climb in a tree for a day or two until they get them open. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well my plan to shoot a yearling doe yesterday worked. But in the heat of the moment my shot was high. I did not get her. I bogered up the breading thicket looking for her. Bumped the big ten and an eight out of it. Need let it rest for a couple days before hunting it again. Will be out Saturday morning to try again.
So, here's the story. I'm on my way there and notice my phone is ringing. It's my grandson and he's freaking out. I can barely understand him and tell him to calm down. He proceeds to tell about the 4 doe and the monster 14 point buck standing in the driveway and I need to hurry up and get there and shoot it. I'm thinking to myself, lol, yeah right. I arrive 2 minutes after the call and I see 4 doe that are now standing in the cut corn and another deer a little further back. They are all within 50 yards of me. Of course, it's also still dark out. I hear this buck grunting like crazy, seems like about every second. So I just decide to go to my stand and hope they work their way over. I'm in the stand by 6:15 and light is breaking. By 6:30, I looked over where they were at and low and behold I see that doe group coming my way. The lead doe was the biggest and she got to within about 30 or so yards to me. The other 3 kind of turned off. I didn't see the buck but all of a sudden I hear grunting like crazy again. I still didn't see him and he finally cleared a row of little trees. He came right to that lead doe. He's now 35 yards from me facing head on and she's broadside to me. They are just standing there, no clue I'm in my stand. She takes a couple steps then he takes a couple and is now at a hard quartering to me. Still not taking that shot. She took a couple more and he followed suit and now he's at a medium quarter to me. 35 yards out. I already was watching him through my scope, so I steadied the crossbow and let it fly. He did the highest mule kick I've ever seen in my life. He practically did a rack stand, lol. He then busted out of there and crossed back over that tree line and I lost sight. I did not see him anymore. I called my grandsons and they came out. This was 40 minutes after the shot. I was pretty sure I nailed him good. We go over and my younger grandson is the first to spot blood and he starts making a bee-line and I had to reign him in. I explained a few things then we started the track. The blood did peter out for about 10 yards or so, but the we hit that higher grass and he just opened up, big time. I knew right the dead buck and he's close. My younger grandson, again looks ahead and runs in front of us and he starts screaming, there he is! 50 yards his fate was sealed. Great morning and got to get my 2 grandsons in on the action. Here he is! By the way, I shot him @ 6:54 this morning.
