Actually there is one small patch of woods where I played cat and mouse with a really wide 8 point last year (I lost of course) that I need to look at. My brother said that the farmer removed a part of the woods. If he pushed the trees up into a pile along the west side then that spot will have some real potential as it would funnel all the traffic through a narrow corridor. Even then it really doesn't matter because one of my trees will already be in the prime spot. I guess it's just mow the lawn and line things off the honey-do list until 2 September.
I am not good at names but thought I would throw a couple out there Buck Kickers Slickhead Snipers Size Matters Arrow Addicts
Hey team, my name is Dustin. I am 31 and am structural engineer from northern Illinois. I have been bowhunting for 7 years now. The season here starts October 1st. I enjoy the hunting contest because it helps kick start the excitement and anticipation for the upcoming season. I look forward to being on a team with all of you and sharing our experiences throughout the season.
I'm usually 99.9% climber guy myself. I LOVE my summit viper with all the mods: Hazmore seat Thirdhand stabilizer straps Thirdhand bow holder Great stuff foam sprayed in the outer frames Digi camo hockey stick tape covering the entire stand for excellent noise cancelation Summit foot rest Game plan gear Tree stand transport system Over the years I have gotten extremely proficient at climbing. usually takes me under ten minutes from base of the tree to arrow nocked and hunting. I love the comfort, and sense of security. This forest I hunt is LOADED with straight trees. my old set up of a LW assault hang on with LW sticks would not benefit me at all where I hunt. When I went out to Illinios for the first time all i brought was my climber, and spent three hours looking for a single straight tree!!
I'm only setting up this old hang on stand for stealth and quiet. It's in a big Hemlock pine tree (AMAZING COVER!) and its on the edge of crazy thick mountain laurel, 20 yards away from a major funnel in and out of it. It's close to bedding areas, so it needs to be a perfect quiet entry. I'm pretty quiet in my climber, but don't want to take the chance seeing as I will only have a few opportunities to make it happen.
How much does that Viper weigh with all of those mods? I have three Vipers an one Viper Elite. I really like the 16 pound Elite, but I really prefer the regular Vipers because they are more quiet and comfortable.
Now I'm ready to Nock one and knock a decent buck down this year Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Lol.I like the Nockin Niners as well. I'm doing a 3D shoot this Saturday. it's the last shoot of the year. They always raffle off good stuff. I won a meat grinder last year. Need to kill a hog, it's still in the box. Hello Dustin, and welcome to the team nsimmons Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
Nockin' Niners sounds great to me also. Sorry it took a while. I got home and had to mow the yard/front horse "'pasture". It's only about 1 1/2 acres, but it takes a long time to edge both sides of that stupid fence. Taking care of horses is the price I pay to be able to hunt all during deer season. I started to play with the new travel trailer, but I'm just too tired to bother with it.
Hey Joe, I'm really curious about how much that Viper weighs if you know. I wouldn't mind rigging one up like that, but I'm getting too old to pack a lot of weight around in the Missouri Ozarks.
Hey sorry wasn't trying to ignore you! I'll weigh it tomorrow morning. I think it only drops like a pound or so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
OK here's my go to stand! Weight 20-21 pounds (Weighed myself, then weighed myself with the stand on my back) This is how I packet, makes it really easy to unpack and hook up at the tree, and then vice versa when the hunt is over. (Don't mind the backside of the apartment I live in.. Here she is set up on a small tree in my backyard. The third hand stabilizer straps pull the front bar down on the top piece, to the back of the bottom piece keeping it locked to the tree. It makes it just a sturdy as a hang on treestand. I can lean into the front bar for a shot, and I don't have to worry about bumping the sides of it, worry about the top piece falling down. I loosen the straps up when I climb, and both The top piece and bottom piece are connected at all times. Notice the hazmore seat puts me up higher than the stock seat. The hazmore seat slides back effortlessly, so when you stand you have a very large area. I was really surprised to see the difference on how big the foot platform becomes. Next up is the third hand bow holder. The bow holder allows me to be able to climb with the bow in the holder, so no more knotted up tangled bow rope. This is how the both sets while I climb. It is almost impossible for the bow to fall out, it's held in place by its own weight. And once I'm all set and my desired height stabilizer straps sinched down, I just rotate my bow forward, knock and arrow and I'm hunting. The hazmore seat Is very comfortable, just like the stock seat in my opinion, plus it cuts down on weight by a pound, and is not in your way when climbing, or holding your scent. Are used 1 inch pipe insulation and covered them in camo hockey stick tape, on the two brace bars, because those will dig into your kidney area. It looks like I over exaggerated a little bit on my use of the camo hockey stick tape. I have a covering areas where I have clinic stuff on before, not the entire thing. I would never use a climber again without the stabilizer straps, Nor the bow holder. here's the thirdhand archery website: http://www.thirdhandarchery.com/home.asp Jim is a great guy, and is all over Archery Talk forums.
