View for the next couple hours. Only time I have for the next week or so to hunt. 2 of 3 bucks in the area that were nice, were taken during gun season. Wide 9 made it. Got a couple pics of him Sunday and Monday. Looks busted up. Sent from my SM-G965U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Had alot of action tonight. 6 does came through between 4:15 and 5.Then between 5 and 5:35 i had at least 3 bucks come through before legal light ran out. After that I believe 2 more bucksand a doe came through, 1 of them was the wide 9. I passed on this buck tonight, 20 yards at around 5pm tonight. After getting some regular pictures of him early season, I made a decision I would let him go thinking next year he could blow up. What do you think? Is he young enough to possibly be bigger next year. He would definitely be my largest deer taken if he gets bigger than what he is this year. 3rd pic is the wide 9. Hold out for that wide 9. You know he's there and with some cold temps, I bet you get a shot at him. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
He doesn't look super young. Pretty stout little body. But at same time if you have another target it won't hurt to let one slide, see what he turns up like next year.
Update for me. Have only had a couple 2 year old bucks on cam since gun season. Snow storm coming in today. This weekend is doe only for the state. Will get out next weekend. Hopefully something a little bigger starts to show up. Good luck to the guys still at it
At my grandpa land I usually get some decent movement as they seem to winter there in his area. And we got 12 inch of snow last weekend. By the house this year we have a lot of winter wheat and there are a lot of tricks in it but have only seen does and fawns during daytime. Pressured pretty hard around here during gun season. We don't do drives but most of the neighbors do drives
That seems kind of like the census most people have been seeing and saying. I have a feeling late season will be better than normal...colder temps finally rolling in, hunting pressure eased off, pattern predictability back in play, etc. Will be interesting to see what shows up when I get my last rodeo in for the year.
I love late season! I like it better then the rut. If you get really cold temps and a good green food source, you are golden. I plan to get a few hunts in soon, my be even tomorrow. I enjoy the cold crisp air this time of year. Down side is the deer can hear and see you from along way off. Still got to be sneaky when getting in. I still have a ton of doe tags and a buck tag that won't be open til this weekend and last 2 weeks. I really only would take 1 more deer then be done. Keep pushing guys! We got alot of points, just need a few more to stay in it. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I still have 1 buck and 3 doe tags left. Really hoping I can punch one more. Dont really have options as far as food sources go. Do have feeders that still seem to be getting hit though, so thats good sign. Right now we are still fairly warm though, like most are, and movement is still at night. Need a cold spell to roll in and stay to get those colder temps needed for more day time movement.
I'M OUT! First sit since bursitis attack. Don't know what I'll see, but it's great being back in the woods. Little difficulty walking on the uneven ground, but I gutted it out. Filled up on naprosen... hehe. Wish me luck, or better yet pray I have one come in range for a shot. Feels like September versus December... strong south wind. NOTHING today - woods dead silent. Thought for sure with the barometric pressure dropping and rain coming this evening something could happen. Tomorrow is rain and freezing mix. Will be headed to a different farm next time out.
Well been a crazy week here in Wisconsin. Foot of snow last weekend and 60 degrees on Wednesday. Huge storm came thru my small town. Tornado hit and caused some serious damage. Only 1 injured thankfully. Most of town has been without power for 2 days. Been cold the last 2 days with temps in the 20 only. They are working like crazy to get it back on. I was at work when it came thru about 1/2 mile away. The power flickered twice but never lost it completely. With the noise of the machines and wearing ear plugs we never heard the sirens. Only had 1 tree go down at home otherwise no damage for us. On the hunting side nothing big has shown back up yet. Might try to get out Sunday if possible otherwise I will be out Thursday
Illinois got hit hard down here too. Hoping that a couple guys can knock something down here in the late season! My cams also don’t have much movement. I’m hoping to smack another doe before season and end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What a rotten day here... freezing mix. I could feel the penetrating dampness all the way to my bones when I went out to get the mail earlier. Forecast for tomorrow calls for more of the same... ugh. Don't hunt on Sundays on the Amish farms, so I'll be out again Monday!
