That's awesome you do that. Don't ever let it change...I wish I would have gotten in to the hunting scene a bit sooner to go out with my Dad when he was into it, but never did. Now I am trying to figure out how to find ways to get him out with me in the upcoming season and years even if its just to tag along. He isn't into shooting compound anymore, as he just doesn't have the drive to strength build to be able to pull anything above 40 lbs. But maybe I can get him intrigued on the xbow my brother in law gave to me.
Supposed to rain and storm here tomorrow afternoon. I get the big stink eye from the wife when I mentioned hunting this weekend anyways, lol. I have a lot that I need to get done around the house. Might get out next Saturday morning, but if not it will likely be the weekend of the 23rd with all the stuff we have going on this month.
Enjoy it while you still can. My dad passed away last year and miss hunting with him. He wasn't into deer hunting much but we did a lot of waterfowl hunting together. We usually went open day of duck season which is the 2nd Saturday in October. Never had too many high hopes of success because it was usually warm, but it was just getting out there and hunting with him.
I should be on stand this afternoon. My try and get one more hunt this weekend. I still have to cut up that doe, so that will probably be part of my Saturday. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Ohio opened last weekend. Hung a couple cameras. Looked my stands over. Got my new rest on my bow. Shot about 60 arrows today. Good to go. Was at my brother in law's house last week in Columbus and got a picture of this guy in his neighbors back yard. He said there are a bunch of deer that wonder through the neighborhood. Said there are a couple bucks like this one. Sees some of them in the mornings eating the bird seed from his feeders out his back sliding doors. I am going to try and get out next weekend. Nothing for me tonight. I sat on of my go to spots that I usually always see deer. Absolutely nothing! Didn't see, smell or hear a deer. All well, move to next spot. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Shot fired on a nice 10. Giving him some time, think I saw him fall though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hopefully he is celebrating and forgot. Not the other, like what I went thru Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Well I wish I had good news but unfortunately not. I think he must have stepped as I shot and I hit back leg. He was quartered away when I shot. Found arrow last night and only had 15” penetration and no blood to follow. Grid searched this morning after finding no blood in the pouring rain and came up empty handed. 15” or 1.5”? I would say 15 inches is a dead deer. Guess forgot the decimal point? Bummer for sure. But if only 1.5” penetration I don’t think you have to be concerned with surviving. Hopefully you’ll get another crack at him
15” not 1.5” and he could be dead. However he’s likely on the neighboring property that we don’t have permission to go on. We searched almost all of lease this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just re-read your post and must have over looked “back leg”. I was thinking back of front leg for some reason, lol. Apparently didn’t have enough coffee yet. Makes sense if no blood. Bummer you can’t access neighbors property but it happens
I will be heading out this afternoon for a sit. Going to sit a confirmed buck bed for the first time. Found it this last winter, but believe the buck at the time was shot. But want a early season sit on it to see if anyone new moved in. It's the best bed I have found on this property in the last 6 or so years. I will also take a doe if given a chance. Had a good sit last night. Seen my top target buck and another decent buck. They both stayed on the far edge of ny food plot. Was nice to see them on their feet.
