Yikes, I saw my father-in-law go through them. I pray it is a light case for you.

@pick00l hope you recover well and quickly.

Went out and scouted with @Jezzy670 yesterday, got a few more cameras out and checked some old spots for acorns on the white oaks, found a few new ones. All the oaks are loaded with acorns this year. Early and mid-October could be really good.

Remember, the key to winning this contest is to shoot does. If everyone shoots a doe, that is 450 points. Add in bucks from half of us with a 100 point average, and we have a really good chance.

I try to spend the first 3-4 weeks targeting does. Always seems like only the young ones want to give me shots....so I am always waiting on momma. Fingers crossed I will be successful this year. I did get one last year on late season but, took the flintlock vs crossbow that day.

I'll add... I have a bunch of does tags this year. I should be able to get it done at some point. Count me in for 50 already!. Might be interesting to forecast our score based on what this team believes each will pull in?

I have a trail camera on a pond that has been getting consistent doe traffic almost every day this summer. Not sure if I will hunt there opening weekend or not, depends on whether or not the other cameras start showing bucks consistently. If I do hunt that pond, I think there is a reasonable chance I put a doe down opening weekend.

Finally got out for my first sit this morning, weather was perfect cool and damp. Had two does walking up on the right side of me around 7:30am. Slowly working up the hill when they suddenly stopped. Few seconds later they dart off and I get a glimpse of a small coyote running after them.another sec later here comes the mom and another pup behind the first one. What timing, dang coyotes. Then around 10:30am a velvet spike buck comes behind me and decides to bed down for two hours. I finally was able to get down around 1 O'clock from my saddle. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Heading up to Kansas tomorrow. I unfortunately didn’t draw a tag this year but my buddy did.

Continue prep on the farm. Got one of our hay rack set ups in place

And then we got our new 360 blind up on another part of the property.

Kids only had a half day of school today and we didn’t get home until midnight with an out of town JV football game last night. Let the kids sleep in and took my youngest to the gun range this morning. 8 years old and he was shooting the .243 for the first time well enough that I bought him a youth weekend gun permit. Between the crossbow and the .243, he is determined to take the title of youngest deer killer from my oldest. My oldest got his first deer at 9. If I can get my middle son comfortable with the .270, my oldest can hunt with the .303 he inherited from my FIL, all three of my boys will be hunting the youth weekend for the first time. If they all get deer during the youth weekend, it frees up more of my time to hunt during the rut.

Made it back home last night, 16 hr road trip. Day 3 hunting was a bust, nothing was moving. I guess the storm's that came in that night must of had them bedded. Just going to lay low for a while maybe head out to the public in East Texas and refresh camera's and wait for cooler weather. Will be heading back to Missouri end of Oct-Nov Time frame around Bethany area this time and try my luck there.

You are in the hunt near Bethany. Home of the IA-MO Giants, or MO-IA depending on your allegiance ROFL!. Near southern Iowa, correct?
