Good news bad news. I got a buck with my rifle so, I am done. Good news, I will push for a doe in late season with my bow.

I hunted Wednesday morning by myself and didn't see anything. I took out my oldest and my youngest Wednesday afternoon. My youngest took a 40 yard shot at a doe with the crossbow. Unfortunately, she ducked and he hit her through the backstraps. While we looking, my oldest text me that he had shot a 5 point. Also unfortunately, his shot was back we thought it was liver/guts. I set up a dog tracker for Thanksgiving morning after looking for a couple of hours. Before heading out Thursday morning, I got a trail camera pick through a friend of a friend of the buck walking with the arrow in his back hip 12 hours after the shot and several hundred yards away. Pretty sure it stuck in the back leg bone, so we didn't bother tracking.

I hunted again Sunday afternoon, saw a spike and an unknown deer, nothing closer than 60 yards. I will keep plugging away. Wrestling season is in full swing now, so hunting time will be limited the next few weeks until I can get out while I am off for Christmas.

I have a ML draw hunt this weekend. So it’s my extra buck tag. Hopefully I can put one down! After that I’ll get back out with my bow after a buck!

13 degrees with 8” of snow on the ground muzzleloader hunting is fun when the ML fires. Yes I had a big 8 at 20 yards today at 340pm and my ML went off but I’m assuming moisture got to the pellets. The fire came out the barrel with the bullet going about 30 feet. Not heart broken but certainly learned something.

I’ve never had this happen to me but have heard of it happening to friends. Maybe tomorrow or next Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday I will be lucky.

Learning is like breathing, if you’re brave enough to test how far you can go without it the outcome is inevitably a lesson of the need for it, if you want to go on living.
