Just an update... Friday night I snuck in the tall tined 6x6 bedding area since he hasn't been coming out. I played it safe with the crappy NE wind we had. I saw him and 6 other bucks. He was out pretty early but only moved 150 yards in well over an hour just browsing and being a tough guy with the other bucks. He hangs with a tall tined 4x4 that is also pretty nice. I need a west wind of any sort to get a shot at him. The are only taking east winds. I did have 2 younger bucks come by. They need a few years yet. LOL This morning I had 4 does go by anywheres from 15 - 25 yards I suppose I really should buy a doe tag but want to concentrate on buck hunting. Tonight I went into the short tined 6x6's bedding area. He was a no show but did see to decent bucks. One was a very clean and very even 5x5 in the 135ish range. The other was funky 4x4 that goes in the 120 - 125 range. Give both another year and they will be pretty good bucks. Had a doe go by at 3 yards and saw two other does. Not sure if I will go out in the morning but will be hunting tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully they are wrong with the wind direction and I can make something work with the tall tined 6x6. Tim
Good Luck TJF!! Hope you get him on the ground soon, sounds like you got him figured out! Good Luck!!!
Well fellas......I'm gonna be in my blind in the corn field tomorrow evening......We'll see how it goes. It's gonna be a little warm, about 80......But not too bad. It'll be my first hunt of the year and I'm ready.
Timmy: If you can't fill your tags out there, I found a deer here that you can come and tag. :P Just kiddin' Timmyboy. Good luck this season to you and the boy. Keep it real, bro. But my team is still gonna kick your ass.
I saw 2 does feeding in the freshly cut corn field Friday evening. I'll be back out this afternoon. I'm hunting tight to a bedding thicket next to cut corn and a water hole.....I know they're in there, it's just a matter of having them in my 30 yard perimeter.
I hung a "Buck Only" set this AM and I am pumped for November to get here. This is gonna get interesting.
I woke to my 5 am alarm this morning to find one heck of a thunderstorm blowing through. Uh, yeah.......I ain't doin that again. Back at it this evening.
We are headed to our farm in southern mo this weekend. I am fairly certain I will be able to put a doe on the ground. If all goes as planned I'll manage to get it on video too.
Get after 'um mobow!! I will be able to hunt (if the weather is right) starting next Thurs. morning. Got Thurs, Fri, Sat, and maybe a little Sunday to hunt next week. I can hardly wait to see what happens.:D
Im gonna get an ant tatoo and call everybody dawg. Got official word this evening. We are indeed headed to the farm this weekend. I will be leaving immediately after work on Friday. I will be out ot Internet till I return on Sunday evening. I'll have the iPhone with me but we have no cell service down there. I'll check in when I get home.
indianabrandon, glad to hear your back & out of there! I'm hopefully heading out tomorrow afternoon, if I don't get called into work. Here's the dilema. Where to hunt? 1.) In a tree, in a new spot, that had lots of good travel sign in Feb/Mar. cons-skeeters, & lots of foilage. 2.) In a blind, where I seen that real big 12 last yr and a couple of smaller bucks. cons- seen most deer in the morning, not heavily traveled Whatcha think?
if it was ,e I would give that new spot the run... I love the new spot option in the start.. but thas me brother
Nothing on the new spot tonight boys. We'll try to hit it tomorrow on the private land w/the kid. But a bit of good news. I tallyed up my buck tags, 3, is what I have to use or lose.
Got off work early yesterday. Had a 2.5 year old buck in range but the big boys didn't come out to play. Back to harvest and won't expect to be hunting for a while now again. Tim
