2 weeks for me boys, and the sticks will be flying! (hopefully) Bummer is that I have to work on opening morning & won't be able to go out, until the following Tues afterwards. I'm trying to score some hunting land, I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh the joys of hunting with a full moon !! Made it out last night for the 1st hunt of the year and didn't see a deer. Tyler was hunting in another area and the deer were just starting to move when it was too late to shoot. He saw two does and a buck on the walk out.

I"ll be out hunting again this evening and tomorrrow morning. Not expecting to see much with the full moon but at least I am hunting.

I hear from lots of folks they don't like hunting a full moon, but I'm just the opposite. I'll take a full moon on high pressure anytime. I always see more deer on a full moon, it's just later in the morniing. Shoot, sometimes I don't even bother heading to the stand till around 8.

I was mainly talking for evening hunts that I hate it. I don't mind it for morning hunts and see deer verses pm hunts of not seeing much.

Tonight was a repeat of last night for both Tyler and I. We are both in good spots with good deer numbers. They just aren't moving at night until after dark.

I am going out in the morning. Hopefully I'll get a crack at a buck on his way back to bed.

Season opens here in MO next Tuesday, the 15th. I'm going to think outside the box a little for the first week. One spot I hunt has a cornfield that's still standing (as is all of the corn around here, unusual) and toward the SE corner of that field is an area that wasn't planted and has grass growing in it. It's about 20 yards wide and 20 yards long. Bordering it directly east is a cedar thicket and east of the cedar thicket is another cornfield. Connecting the 2 cornfields is a farm road that the deer use quite heavily.

In the map below, the 2 fields outlined in yellow are corn, the blue is the farm road and the green is the grassy area. I plan on setting Matrix in the corn along that grassy area and brushing it in good. The deer use the corner of that field quite a lot, even when there isn't corn there. But it's normally at night. I'm hoping since the corn is still standing they'll use it all hours of the day. So at least 1 evening during that first week I'm gonna hunt that spot. The blind is marked in pink.

Whaddya guys think? Can it work?

I love hunting grassy or slew areas that go out into a corn field. If the road isn't used much by others going from field to field... The deer have an easy access and it should be a very good spot for the deer to mill around and browse when they aren't feeding on the corn. Worth while checking out !!

I was able to sneak out after work since it rained and he let us go home a bit early. Glad I did.

I had an interesting night. Got rained on for an hour or so. Then it got real nice out for the last hour. Had a real nice 5x5 ( 135 - 140 ) with hanging velvet go by at 18 yards. He had places to be though and wouldn't stop trotting. He was probably desperate in trying to find a tree in this no tree land to finish rubbing his velvet off. LOL It did get the old ticker a beating. Then a pretty decent 4x4 ( 125-ish ) comes in fast too. He stopped though and stood broadside for a couple minutes begging to die. Got my heart set on killing something bigger so passed.

Might be able to get out tomorrow night after work also. Depending on the wind... I might hunt the other spot the shorter tined 6x6 is roaming in. Things are picking up a bit now that the dreaded full moon went away.

My season opens this Sat, but I won't be out till maybe next Wed. Schedule is just to busy. Not sure where I'll hunt yet. My honeyhole, I'm pretty sure is gone. hopefully I can get on some new land. Still have to wash everything & set it up.

Ugh, when I talked to you you did not even know when the season began :) I could take you to my place, maybe I will after Team 12 has sealed their success. Hahahahaha

We should go out there. I am sure there is a doe or two for you.

My goal this weekend is to get some meat on the table. I have plenty of doe permits so I won't be that picky for my first bow kill. I think I have a diamond in the rough spot on public land that others have overlooked due to it's small size and hard to access. However, it this funnel appears to be traveled a lot. Wish me luck.
