These are scoutlook pics of my hunting spots. I am by far not the best at stand placement and I'm very new at selecting locations for food plots but I figured I would share a few pics at a glance.

The Ridge is a 20 acre area in the middle of two larger properties that is also very close to the river. It is a rocky under developed land but white oaks red oaks are very abundant and always producing acorn my hang on stand sits in a row of white oaks and I use portable stands climbers ladders etc to hunt in other trees given the right wind direction. Imo it is pretty much a travel spot where deer bucks cruise lookin for hot does which are also present in fair numbers. I run mineral sites year round and I most recently added a big feeder to the south of my hang on stand. The deer are getting used to it being there and I think it will aid in bringing them into bow range this fall. I have yet to harvest a buck from the property but I have shot a great buck there before and was unable to recover after a 3 day search. I try to keep the does around but I did harvest a decent doe last season. Great hunt all in all it is a good spot to be in come fall and my favorite area to hunt. This year I have a young bachelor group using it in daylight The twins which are a buck and a doe. A mature doe with fawn in spots. Mature doe with Twin yearling bucks etc it's just a great hunting spot and I feel privileged to hunt it!!!!! And look forward to finally arrowing a mature buck off of it. I think I have it figured out and I have never been busted at this location

Next spot is my newest area that I'm not so for certain about. It's close to 40 acres and is and old cow pasture but there hasn't been any cattle for years the landowner tells me. It has a pond and not very many fruit bearing trees let alone a good tree to put a stand in but I have already found a couple that I feel like I can make work the pins in the photos show where they are I'm currently trying to determine where to put a fall food plot as the soil here seems pretty good so it would be ideal for plots in an effort to attract more wildlife preferably whitetail. Cameras are out and running so far I've only got a pic of 1 doe and if that doesn't change I will relocate the cameras but the spots I put them in look like obvious trails I've started a couple minerals sites and look forward to working the land best I can. Any suggestions and tips from the team would be greatly appreciated. Again I feel very fortunate to have a place like this I can watch turn into a place the deer like to use.[IMG]

Good stuff Jeff, thanks for sharing!

I plan on starting my mock hunts this week.

Where I go in the woods in my backyard, with all my hunting gear. Use my climber climb up about 20' and shoot at a target twenty yards out.
I like to do this a few times before the season so I'm not rusty at using my climber come opening day!

I have a couple stands I rotate out of my backyard first I had the 2 man ladder out back. I took it down and put it out on the 40 and now I have my portable ladder up in the back yard I picked it up at the end of season it's custom stand aluminum I call it the lazy boy it is very light also. I to have a climber if I need to get up higher I can use that. Preparation for the right situation definitely practice how you hunt!!!!

    Absolutely!

When I owned my property, I had an awesome setup. My deck railing was 18' from the ground so I made a small platform on it, and practiced all offseason out to 45 yards elevated. Wish it was still that easy for me to practice!

Here's one of my mock hunts in April at my old place in a LW hang-on

What else is the team doing to prepare for season? I started shooting broadbeads yesterday and back on my workout plan every other day weight training in between my jogging days and like Joe I'm climbing up and shooting out of my tree stand every chance I get just staying ready to keep from getting ready

I have some physical limitations per doctor's order after my stroke. He does not want me working out excessively, or putting any major strain on my body. So I walk at a vigorous pace 2 1/2 to 3 miles a day, to get my heart rate going. This will definitely help my mile and a half walk in the woods. I wish I could run, but my doctor doesn't want me to.

Looks like in the process of the sign-ups, Trice got added a second time. Since he checked into Team 19 first, we'll go with that. smitty88 can take his place here. I'll PM him and let him know to check-in ASAP

My name is Jake. I'm 29 and hunt eastern Iowa. I have a decent little spot that I've hunted a few years now that I finally think I have figured out. Put cameras out earlier this month and haven't touched them yet. I'm going to try and get out there before Sept to get stands up and check cameras. I know there are a handful of decent bucks that made it to spring so I'm looking forward to finding out if they are still hanging around. Heading out west for 1st season rifle Elk hunting in CO this October so I'll be MIA for a couple weeks. I got in this contest a couple seasons ago, but with the birth of my first child I wasn't able to get out as much as I wanted and kind of faded away from the forums during season. Not sure how we finished. I'm in it to win it this year though!

Welcome aboard Jake! It's completely understandable life happens, and there's more important things in life than hunting.

Can't wait to see what your trail cam show!!
