The doctor said someone was looking over him because both his spots he got shot just bearly missed this intestines and the main vein in his leg Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Mornin everyone!! I have my schedule clear for a Friday morning hunt, but have to be home for 3, because of me and my wife's tenth wedding anniversary... lol!! Saturday is a green light for the morning and afternoon hunt!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Congrats on the anniversary. I'm thinking of taking Friday off as the wind will be perfect (as well as Sat) for the 3 mile hike spot.
Heading to Colorado for 1st season rifle season for elk tomorrow morning. Good luck to everyone while I'm gone. Hoping to get in the tree as soon as I get back in a couple weeks.
Hey Joe - you did not mention an anniversary! Congrats to you and the Mrs. She certainly deserves a medal!
Sorry don't know that unit. But my general rules: • > half mile from roads and hiking trails; • animals need cover/security, food and water relatively close or they're likely gonna move; • I've been hearing the elk may still be up high in several areas (if there isn't a good bit of snow to encourage them to move lower); • be aggressive but not stupid; • play the wind!
Thanks! I anticipate camping relatively high (around 9500 feet) and this area is heavily wooded with lots of mountain lakes and streams. Elk should be there, but it may be difficult locating them.
If you haven't, look at the past fires in the area (e.g. http://www.geomac.gov/viewer/viewer.shtml in the data layers, past fires and look at the past 7 or 8 years). Sometimes they will be foraging in old burns for the new growth but bedding in nearby unburned areas like protected ravines, overgrown stream areas, etc). Also lots of water sips and small but frequent snacks will help with elevation.
I'll be hitting the woods in the morning! There's supposed to be a very odd east wind tomorrow. I really don't have a go to spot for that wind, but I have an area in mind that I'd like to try out. On Saturday there is supposed to be a south wind. again, another odd wind direction, but perfect for hunting the bedding areas!! I plan on doin g a saturday morning hunt, and saturday afternoon hunt.
Taking tomorrow off. Three mile hike. I'm going Wayne Gretzky on any deer I see tomorrow. ...Wayne Gretzky? Yes, as in you miss 100% of the shots you don't take...I've got 6 tags and room in the freezer.
Got skunked again this morning. Beautiful morning in the woods, so I consider it a successful hunt! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It started as a normal morning but got weird. The highway was closed (4am) due to a wreck. Cop let me pass in the suicide lane as they were loading the wreck onto the flatbed. Bad wreck, looked like a stopped car got rear-ended --to the back seat. I start down the trail at 5:15 and I see a reflector way up in a tree along the trail, weird. As I got closer I saw it was eyes. Must be an owl sitting over the CRP, I hoot. Nothing. As I got closer and shined my head lamp on it, it was a bobcat. I tried to snap a pic by the light of the headlamp at bottom. Weak. I pushed on and set up the hang on stand 15 yds closer to where 4 deer were last week as the wind was supposed to be perfect from the NNE. Pond on my west, bedding NE. The pond had filled with recent rains but I was expecting the deer to get water as the streams were already dry. 9 am 3 does come out at the far end of the pond, 2 went around the pond, 1 crossed at 50 yds-not close enough. 10am a light rain started...it turned into a down pour. I had grabbed my rain gear top as an after thought before heading out. No other deer came out. I left the stand and top 2 sticks. I packed the lower 2 and left. On the way out I decided to see where a deer trail went...3 hrs later after wandering all over (up and down ridges didn't know existed, stream beds, pines and about 1 mile of brier where I was literally flattening brier with my bow as I was exhausted and disoriented from the overcast sky and the phone gps that stopped working as it got wet) I bumped 1 deer just before meeting up with the last mile of the trail back to the car. 15000 steps for the day, saw 4, 0 arrows flung. Made it to the stand this morning its gonna be a hot one but I'll be hanging around until mid day or so just need that window of opportunity. Good luck this weekend guys!!! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
