Gear ready for tomorrow and the last piece of needed gear for CO arrived today...

My hunting season can now begin...just a few more hours and a nights sleep. [IMG]

I finally got the videos from he trail camera I was hunting over when I shot the doe to play.

I knew the doe I killed was in front of the camera when I shot.

I actually got the entire shot sequence on trail cam video from before the lead doe blew to the doe I shot kicking and running off camera.

You can hear the bow shot and the sound of the arrow impact is awesome. Pretty good stuff!

I'll have to wait until I get home tomorrow to post it.

The last four sits have been total zeros. No deer spotted at all.
    It's almost unbelievable.

Still, all of the good activity, both on camera and Thursday morning occurred at times when my Hunt Calendar solar/lunar app said movement would be good.

The app's forecast for today and tomorrow? Dismal....

I know a lot of folks don't put much stock in solar/lunar predictions, but I've found this app to be strangely accurate.

It was a good sit on the woods, but no deer.

Well, that'll wrap up this trip. Thursday morning was awesome what with the excitement of killing a doe and almost getting a buck. Every other sit was a total bust. Ah well, it was still a great trip.

I had planned on hunting tomorrow morning but I've hunted hard and I think I've had enough for one trip.

I'll be back Friday afternoon for a four sit trip.

Doing a final gear prep today! I've decided to start the season in my leaf suit on the ground until I figure out what food sources they are hitting. Can't wait!! It looks like we will be getting Irma remnants Thursday-Sunday though.

    Happy Monday everyone!

Three days and a wake up!! Looks like the rain from Irma might hold off till the end of the weekend, meaning Friday hunting in the morning, and Saturday hunting in the morning should be a go!!

Are you hunting just muleys or do you have an elk tag also?

Good Luck Joe. No matter what - enjoy your time in the woods! I'm going to try and get out but not at the farm. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Well 19 days till opening morning and I plan on sneaking into the lease property this weekend to check trail cams for the last time before season starts. I checks 3 of my cameras today that are on the edge of fields and have 4 bucks on those three trail cams they aren't all shooters but I'm glad to be seeing more than just two bucks on the property [IMG][IMG][IMG]

in CO, I'm joining a group of 3 guy. Matt (bz_711) amd his dad who are hunting elk in a draw unit. And Matt's buddy who is hunting mule deer in an adjacent unit. I was going to hunt mule deer this year too, but that plan was killed when my daughter got engaged...so I'll be a Sherpa this year but using this to gain familiarity to hunt the unit for elk next year.

In NC it will be whitetail and hopefully out to hunt with another Matt (Matt on the forum) for black bear.

Morning everyone! Three days and a wake up!
I'm going to hunt on the ground Friday morning. I think I'm going to bring my climber with me though, and mid morning once my hunt is over, i'll take a quick walk over to my two new spots, go up in the climber do a little bit of trimming that I need to do, and will hunt out of the climber Saturday morning. I don't think I'm going to hunt Friday evening or Saturday evening, the temperatures are supposed to be in the high 70s. That's just too damn warm. And it's too long of a time from getting a deer gutted and on ice. It's about A 2 to 3 hour process at best before I can get them on ice.

I'm sure I'll probably change his plan three times before Friday morning! LOL

Now that I have access to an actual computer that isn't a Mac, I wanted to share the videos that my camera picked up from my secondary stand location. This group is definitely in the area, but their traffic pattern is a mystery. I'll put three videos on here and they should be in order.

If I could have been on that stand the afternoon of the 5th it would have been great. This sequence started about 15 minutes before last light. It looks dark, but there was still shooting light.

I'd love to get a chance at the big 8. What do you think? 130" - 135" with velvet?

***Had to edit it. I initially uploaded the wrong second video.

And just to make things more fun (not)...I was asked to travel to NJ yesterday (till Thurs) to assist a team. So that will leave me Thursday night to pack for a week long trip to CO on Friday morning. I'm just glad I put together a packing list last year.

Hey Joe, I set up another Viper. I had another Third Hand holder. I used a bench grinder and rounded the corners, then mounted it upside down so that the bulk of the assembly was out of the way. The stand nests together pretty well.

I used an angle grinder to cut the excess off of the bolts, sanded them smooth and then hit it with some brown spray paint to keep rust down.

I did order another Hazmore seat but in case it doesn't come in before Friday I stole the seat off of my Viper Elite and put it on. I also stole the zippered pads off the Viper Elite. I don't plan on ever using that stand again.

This stand is 10 years old and had a lot of dings in the paint, so I used the brown paint and some black paint and did a "somewhat camo" touch-up.
