eye1 checking in. Can't believe I made it on the Best Team Ever! I'm Jim from Jacksonville, Florida. 58 years young and I consider myself a better shot than most of the country. The deer are really small down here. (That was a joke) I work for Pelican Water. I am in sales. Had my own business for 20 years, custom cabinets. "Prior to the sales thing". My wife says that I went from a wood man to a water boy. (That's another joke) I digress. Opening day for me is September 16th. Excitement is pumping thru my veins as i am typing this. I look forward to the interaction with y'all. Be safe and good hunting! God Bless Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
Welcome to the team Jim! We have at least two things in common: We bow hunt and I used to work in a cabinet shop. I picked up a lot of skills there that come in really handy for taking care of "honey do" tasks. Oh yeah, I used to live in Regency when I was stationed in Mayport.
Hey LittleChief, I was also stationed at Mayport. Met my wife here and never left. Where do you call home? Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
Meant to ask where abouts in Kentucky! I have relatives in Pikesville Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
That is awesome. Every year we make a trip to Missouri in early November. Our Dad started taking us when we were young and got us totally hooked. My Dad didn't have the first clue how to hunt deer, but he loved the experience. Back then it was incredible just to see a deer there. Heck, we'd get excited if we saw deer tracks! We lost our Dad in '89, but every year I go back to our old family camp site, sit on an old log for a few minutes by the old stone fire ring that Dad built and just remember the good times. To this day it still feels like Dad is there with us. This year it will be myself, my two sons-in-law, my brother and his son. We will spend an entire week bow hunting and then we'll spend two or the days hunting when gun season opens. I love to hunt, but I live for that 10 days every year.
Waaaay on the other side of the state, Jim. We hunt near a small town called Farmington in Graves county.
Munford, TN. I was stationed at BUPERS in Millington when I retired and just stayed here. Were you in the Navy?
Yes! Put in 6 years! Decided to get out. "Honorable Discharge" My wife wanted to see me occasionally! Been married 36 years. Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
That is awesome! I love hearing stories like that. To me hunting has become so much more than the kill, it's about the experience, and the life long memories. I'd really like for my dad to go out this fall with me. He's 72 and retired, but has kind of lost the heart for it, which i understand happens. For me, every time I pull down that road, I park in "our spot", I walk down the cart road, I smell the pine groves, I hear the wind blowing through the trees, Passing the old rotted wooden stands from decades ago, Takes me back to being 15 years old, Following my dad down the old logging road. Even though I Didn't see a deer last year, It was still one of my most memorable seasons just being back out there!
Right back at you brother. It's too bad you're so far away. That spot we go to in SE Missouri has become a great spot for big bucks and it's fairly low pressure public land. You'd be welcome at our camp. It'll take a second, but I'll post a pic of the buck my son-in-law took with his bow last season. I struck out, but he got the big one with his bow and another with his gun.
This is the only pic I have on my phone of my son-in-law's bow buck from last year. It's only the rack, but it's impressive.
Wow very nice!! Oh man thanks for the invite, sounds great! If only my car could make it that far! haha! I've heard quite a few good things about SE Missouri, and if I'm not mistaken, NR tags are relatively cheap compared to other states!
Just sent a PM to Dubbya, Johnny Miller, Trice and wl704 to tell them the good news of being on team 9!
They aren't too bad at $225. Where they get us non-residents is that the archery tag costs $225 and so does the gun tag. Those of us who go to bow hunt AND gun hunt are out $450, but it sure is worth it.
