Oct 1st here as well, not sure when my first hunt will be though. Appears I was not drawn for the special lake area hunts, a friend who was in the group last year, and only one to kill was drawn again. Wish group option was there when I submitted my app, but such is the luck. I'll know for certain after this week, being a holiday weekend could have delayed mailings.
I'm in IL, too. We got our plot in right before the 2 days of rain we got 3-4 weeks ago. It is surprisingly green. Hopefully, it can hold strong until the next rain comes I'm also with you on the zero Intel. It feels weird, but should make for some good surprises during the season, hopefully! Opening day here in IL is on a Sunday. I rarely and almost never hunt the day before I have to work. If and when I do it is a very selective shot placement if I decide to launch. Just can't take that chance of not recovering day of. That said, I likely won't be hunting the opener. Friend at work once again gave me an invite to hunt his place today. I'll likely take him up on his generosity, 150+ acres and mostly preset stands so should be good for at least a doe. There's no management or let them walk conditions applied, shoot what you want. I may take a few does early just to get some meat filling the freezer. Will help me be more selective on the antler front. Going to talk to the plant manager tomorrow, see what my options are for taking time off in November. This whole Supervisor/salary thing at work has me unsure of how much I can take off in one months time. 24 sunrises left .....
