Man, I have really been living vicariously thru you guys and your hunting successes so far. I got a promotion at work about 5 weeks ago which is great, but the down side is I have been working more this month than I ever have during hunting season. I haven’t been out yet which is sickening for me to be honest but I plan to as the calendar turns to November. Football and baseball is done after this week for my boys which will free up evenings and weekends more. No shooters on camera for me yet. Got a nice 3 yr old 8pt, a couple of small bucks and some does but that’s it for the last several weeks. Supposed to go look at a new place I just got permission on this week. Hopefully it turns out to be a good spot and I’ll have another option.
I’ve been strapped in for about an hour. Did a hang and hunt on a small wooded piece that I got permission on this summer. 3 does strolled by as I was hanging the stand so I had to hang out for a bit. Well I made the absolute most rookie mistake that I could have tonight. I shot my bow midday today at 40 and 30, I was going to finish at 20 before I left the house but didn’t…yep I forgot to move my sight back to 20. Had a nice buck with a split g2 dogging a doe come in to 20 in a hurry. I stopped him and he faced me and I squeezed it off. There’s 2 things that could have happened, the arrow either ran down his backstrap or made its way under his ribs and hit a lung liver and guts. I watched him for about 100 yards and it seemed like the arrow made it under his ribs with his reaction. He ran about 40 yards stopped and walked the rest of the way so we will see in the morning. I’m going to hunt the same stand in the morning and take up the track around 9-9:30. I will keep you guys updated. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums

Update from Day one: Did not hunt the morning. Worked instead because it was a 24 hour rain which ended late afternoon. I went local for a doe. Saw 7, messed up on one at 40 yards. Instead of pulling the trigger on the Xbow, I went for the rangefinder. Well...poof...gone. Had a smaller 8 pointer at 20 yards but, not one I would shoot right now. only a 2.5-3.5 year old in PA. Tomorrow, bog woods big buck time. Temps dropped from Saturday 70 to 32 degrees in the am tomorrow. Game on. Oh - Found a new honey hole for doe. I'm excited for late season if I don't get one here in the fall. Found what looks an under-hunted spot loaded with enough oaks to last the winter. It is a very hard spot for hunters to want to go into and only 3 private land owners have easy access. Have to climb down a ridge, cross a stream about 6 inches high and 30 feet wide, then climb another steep ridge...walk that ridge 300-400 yards and bang...doe city!

Hopefully you went under the spine, I can say one thing, the few I have shot through the backstraps I didn't find any blood on the ground, little on the arrow and meat in the broadhead with a bit of tackiness on the arrow shaft. Good luck on the track tomorrow
