    HUGE CONGRATS WIBOWHNTR!!! awesome stuff!
Frantic...im right there with you on the cold this morning! it was 12 degrees and sustained 20 mph winds with gusts to 35 mph...just couldn't bring myself to go out! went out yesterday and had STRIKE 2 with this 8 pointer I saw last weekend....3 strikes and he's out. I want to let him go another year, but if he presents another opportunity like this, im gonna have to take him! My big goal for this season was to get a buck harvest on film....to possibly submit an application for BHOD...(ok stop laughing!! LOL) and after botching the recording on my earlier buck kill, and passing on a few shooters in Illinois on film, I feel it slipping away from me. not sure if I want to take this guy yet, he's only 2 1/2 im guessing, and next year will be a great buck. and I was planning on taking him next year with all my new camera equipment...a little torn!!!

Well here is part of my view for the evening. Never sat in this part of the woods before. The green field is actually on the neighbors. There is a fence if you look closely and near as I can tell three crossings with the middle one just to the right of straight in front of me. All three trails come back together behind me at the creek. Kind of wanted to watch the creek crossing but I would have had to be trimming for hours to cut out any lanes.

Figure I'm going to get cold. I sweated pretty bad getting set up. Don't know what to do about that. I drove up here in just my sandals and sock feet to try and not get my feet to sweat as much and my socks were sweated through already just from the drive. Maybe I'll get lucky and have a short sit. Wish me luck.

Just got some company. Whoever is hunting the neighbors ground just walked by.there is another green field to the south of the one I'm over looking. He set up a decoy out there. I don't think he ever saw me. He's calling like crazy.

Well guys I don't think I will be bowhunting anymore this season. I am having troubles at home. My wife and I are splitting up. Sorry I won't be able to add anymore points to the team.

Don't worry about hunting right now, just focus on working on your marriage.

Hunted Gun season Friday and Saturday morning.
Fri morning was first rut action I have seen, and it was just one 2yr old 8pt that was grunting and chasing some does around. Picked my oldest two up from School Friday and rushed back out for quick hunt. Only had an hour left of shooting time so we just walked right down hill from cabin so not to disturb any of the other hunters. At about 5:00 had a big doe coming to our right who ended up winding us, then a fawn was coming from our left. I was just standing next to a large tree with my two boys sitting on the ground a few feet behind me in some brush...on a slight hill so they could see out if front of us. They know I won't shoot a fawn - and then a 2nd deer is coming, another 2yr old 8pt. I whisper to the boys that I don't think he's big enough to shoot and my oldest says "Please shoot him for us Dad"...that's all it took and I got excited and knew I needed to. Well ends up, he had a few more steps to walk to get clear shot, as he was looking around, this fawn came up 10 yards from us and knew something didn't look right, snorted and took both deer back with it...excited hunt at least.

We enjoyed a great night at deer camp with my Dad, Brother, his buddy, and Uncle and his son-n-law. Grilled my first Elk steaks that night and everyone was impressed - cannot wait to share the rest with others...they were delicious.

Plan for Sat morning was to take my 8yr old with me, and my 9yr old planned to sleep in as he had a big basketball game that day and we wanted him rested.
Sure wish I would have taken him now as we sat in a deadfall tree and had 3 does come in behind us, the lead doe getting to under 15 yards before I shot. She ran up over the hill so my boy got to track the blood trail and was so excited when we came upon her...a memory I'll always cherish. Proud of my boy also as it was 20 degrees with 10 degree wind chill...no complaints at all out of him, and he sat so still as these deer approached.
Here is a pic, son in middle was with me, oldest son and grandpa brought the gator to haul her out:

Now I hope to get my oldest out with me for a successful bowhunt before seasons end.

Well I finally put a buck down this morning. Unfortunately it was with my shotgun. I got out a little after 10:30 because I overslept for the first light so I figured I'd do a spot and stalk for the mid day and evening. I shot this guy on state land at 10:43 and he dropped about 25 yards from me. This is my first buck with a firearm.

congrats!!!! well deserved! can you go out thanksgiving morning? should be an awesome morning after the storm rolls through!!!! I'll be in the tree till about 11....hopefully I get out of it earlier though!!!!

EDIT: my mind is made up...If the 8 pointer presents a shot again, I WILL shoot him on film!!! especially with shotgun season a week away, I don't think he will be smart enough to survive it again.

Nice job Chris! Thanks for sharing. I shotgun hunt with the scoped cantilever on 870 also...what shells you use? I've been using the Federal Fusions, but not sure I'm 100% sold on them yet - although they have always gotten the job done - more from a grouping standpoint (but some of that could be me also:))

I sighted in with Winchester something or another's....really don't remember. But I've been using Hornady because that was the best round at ****s when I went.
