What kind of blind are you using? I'm not too familiar with them, but may need to get that way if I get an antelope tag next year.

This ones an Ameristep Brickhouse. I actually really like it. My dad will be using it most of the time. He can't get up in tree stands anymore so he has tried about a 1/2 dozen different blinds finding ones he likes. He also has a Primos Double Bull (I think thats what it is anyway). He likes that one more because its a lot bigger and easier to get in and out of. The vision out of it isn't as good though. I wish I could remember the types that he hated. They were junk. Next time I talk to him I'll ask him and let you know so you can steer clear of those.

Ok. Are they portables, or will it be something that I have to haul in and set up prior?

I think that I stand a decent chance. The problem seems to be that everyone goes for the late tag, and no one goes for the early tag. Luckily, I've got this year to build on going forward.

We set them up prior because my dad just doesn't get around well and couldn't do it by himself and we like to brush them in. They both come with pretty nice backpack bags so they are portable. The think the smaller one weighs 15-18lb and the bigger one is around 22 or so if I remember right. So about like carrying a stand and sticks in with you.

Haven't had any luck. 2 1/2 days and my vacation starts. Hopefully the action picks up.

About how long before season do you set them up? Unless I get some permission for private land, which is something that I'm going to try for, I'll be hunting public land and don't want to invest time/money to have something stolen.

another weekend in the books guys. Saw some movement but nothing like what i thought id see. Got into a huge buck bedding area that I hunted earlier in the season. though i saw nothing earlier something called me to sit that stand because i felt like bucks might be on their feet later in the morning since it was cold, returning to bed in daylight. At first light i heard a deer cross the creek 5 min later looked up and saw a tail flick. There stood a probably 115 inch deer, not sure how many points. I grabbed the grunt call and grunted at him, he looked but kept moving away. an hour after that I caught a rack coming through the creek bottom. The wind was swirling and he was edgy. I picked up my range finder and looked at him, maybe 100 inches and decided i wasnt shooting him anyways. I played with him with the grunt call for a while but never had him come in close.

Then in the evening the winds picked up and snow started to fall. I had the estrous out and was sure id see some buck movement. Didnt see anything until last light a doe came running onto the powerline. There was a deer behind her, but it was a small body and i figured they just got bumped by another hunter and wasnt any rutting activity.

There were probably 7 or so new rubs in that bedding area and 3 scrapes in the creek bottom that showed up recently so the activity is picking up there and will be a set ill keep my eye on for later in the season.. Still havent been to my best stand yet im waiting until the rut is on to slide in there.

Im seeing bucks, i just need a nice one to show up and read the script. Good luck to everyone in the field this week. Hopefully next saturday is the day!

Just finished my interview and don't know how I feel. I mean, I feel like I did ok, but there is the voice of doubt in my mind. I should here in a couple of weeks at the latest.

We just set the one up last week. I like to set them up earlier and give the deer more time to get used to it. But I don't think it's the end of the world to do it late. Wouldn't set one up on public land.

guys. I just checked the updated score card and were less than 100 points from first! First of all lets all give ourselves a big pat on the back because thats really good considering all of the people in this thing! That brings me to my next point: WE GOT A SHOT AT THIS!! 100 points is a 2 year old dear pretty much and definitely doable! We got this guys hunt hard and lets go for the gold!

Had a chance at a doe last night but it was just a bit to dark for me to feel comfortable to shoot. I have a day and a half left before my 10 1/2 days of vacation. My cameras are still showing nocturnal action and bucks together. Hope that changes soon!!

10 1/2 days, man! That's awesome! Hopefully you get another shot at a doe before then. How awesome would that be to start off your vacation with a doe down?
