Sorry I've been away guys. Haven't been in the tree. Out chasing ducks and pheasant. I will be in the tree Friday night though. Lots and lots of activity reported at the property where I had the stomach issues the first week of the season. There's also an albino doe and fawn kicking around as well as some small scrapes and rubs.

I get to report a deer sighting! We were at a community meeting and I had my three oldest boys outside and out of the corner of my eye was about 7 does just grazing. After getting my boys attention, we put the "sneak" on them. Of course, with every move, we got busted, but at the end of it, I had a nice mature doe quartering away st about 20 yards. A great first encounter fire my boys. I have some pictures I'll post tomorrow. Tonights about getting caught up on SOA.

Up having coffee and getting ready to go out again. Going to move 2 stands after this mornings hunt for and then going to take my wife's grandpa out tonight to try to get him a crack at one of the bucks I have been seeing.

hey boys!! I'm only going to be able to make it out for a Saturday morning hunt this week. My son has a afternoon hockey game, and sunday my wife and I are doing our 2nd annual 5 mile kidney fund walk with her best friend! (who received the kidney from my wife)

The temps are gonna be really cold on Saturday morning, and I have seen a bunch more rubs pop up within the last few days, and even saw my old buddy finally on camera!!

Then packing up and getting ready to head out to the land of the giants in Illinois!!! so pumped, cant believe its here already!!!

    I also uploaded another video..LOL

    Joe - that buck's a stud...good luck Saturday!
And holy crap - your wife donated her kidney to her best friend...that is a story that needs to be told more - WOW, good on her!!! We'd be a far better planet if we all had that kind of "giving" in us...

And - good luck in IL - you will not be all that far from my neck of the woods. Things are just picking up slowly with more sign and more reports of bucks on their feet. But not too many big guys in daylight yet - you will be hitting it just right. I do have plans to be off work and hunt Nov 7-12 (except for that Fri evening and Sat morning)...excited myself with as little as I've been out this year.

No deer sighted again this morning, but my camera tells met that 'Ol Split tine was just about an hour and half ahead of me this morning: EK000840_zps9a57cc64.mp4 Video by bz_711 | Photobucket

Slim chance I get out for short hunt again tomorrow morning...then tied up this weekend with half-marathon with my wife...then late next week it's time to get to business...:)

Thanks for the well wishes Matt! My wife and her donating her kidney to her best friend from childhood was an amazing thing..it was incredible they were a perfect match! almost like winning the lottery odds! it was a little nerve racking to say the least, but Mass General in Boston is one of the best hospitals in the world, and the surgeon reassured us that very same statement when we were going through the testing process! her friend is doing great her levels are actually better than my wifes now!
this is kinda funny, my wife is addicted to sweets, (hard to tell cause she's like a beanpole) her friend not at all always at the gym. ever since the surgery, her friend has been craving sweets, and now has a BIG sweet tooth!

Good evening, gents. Just got home a few minutes ago. My buddy and I split a few cord of wood today for one of the property owners. We did a pretty hefty scouting session too after. Man, did it put me in the mood to get back in the tree. On a 140 acre property we found probably 2-2.5 dozen rubs and about a half dozen scrapes. About a quarter of the rubs were on trees anywhere between wrist- and calf-width. The rest were saplings. I know tree size can be a poor indication of how big a deer is but there were some pretty deep grooves rubbed into some big trees. We agreed to wait until Halloween to hunt this property. Tomorrow night I'll be in another property my buddy and I share. He's reporting scrapes and rubs of similar size. He whacked a doe there the other night and says they're rampant through there but I'm gonna hold out for a buck, if one shows.

I saw nothing yesterday morning and passed a small 8 last night. My wife's grandpa didn't go out with me. The buck stood and ate 5 feet from his blind.

Another hunt before work this morning...great morning, car said 19 degrees, record low here last night. Hard frost had the tree raining leaves (and walnuts slamming the ground all around me). Had deer in range - just not the right ones. The chip shots were a fawn and 5pt. Two mature does and fawn came into 36 yards which I would typically shoot, but they were jumpy and locked onto something happening in the other direction...wasn't in the mood for tracking job with having to work - I know without a doubt these does were ready to bolt and duck my arrow. Also 3 does out in our field about 80 yds from my suburban when I walked out. Saw a few more out in fields still on drive to work...the cold snap and late Oct is kicking the deer movement in gear.

Good to get deer close for a change and know they are using this crossing when coming out of neighbors field...plan to sit there my next chance as long as wind is coming from N or W...

Fun weekend planned with wife - rare time away from kids. I'll be checking in though - good luck out there guys! Post any updates you have!

That would have been cool to be in the blind at the time.

This weekend will be a good one. The wife and the baby are going out of town with my Mother-in-Law for my Sister-in-Law's baby shower, so it's me and the older three this Saturday night and most of Sunday. Going to get a haircut this afternoon after work for my interview Monday morning. I'll continue to shoot a little throughout the weekend. We're almost to the point where the targets come down for the winter. I do want to find a spot where I can blind bail shoot throughout the winter, however. Or maybe I can just take advantage of the archery club membership and go to the range.

Like Matt said, post any updates you guys have. I'm hunting vicariously through you guys!
