thanks for the anniversary wishes Tim!!! I usually go to this tree during the rut,, but I went to it twice this weekend. I think I might stay away from it till I come back from my Illinois trip the first week of November.

Did you say something about an IL trip towards the beginning of the thread and I just don't remember, or is this something that just came up? When/where are you going? Are you still chasing whitetails?

Good times! Can't wait to hear/see some pictures! Glad to hear that it'll get to be a yearly trip! That's pretty awesome.

Back up in the tree again. I'm in a funnel of hardwoods about 80 yards wide. On my left is a cornfield and on my right is an office building. I'm not very confident at all. The corn is still standing and there's a renaissance fair going on about a half mile south of me. The more I think about it the less confident I become because this strip of woods continues down past where the fair is and splits their parking lots....and they're shooting cannons. I doubt the deer will be traveling this way tonight.

Is this one of your regular spots? Maybe come back after all the excitement calms down or goes away. It sounds like a good spot.

It's part of one of my regular properties. I had a half assed hunt here once the first week of the season. I think it'll be good once the corn is cut. I expected it to be down by now.

I planned on using a stand I'd never been to in order to "save time". Couldn't find it. Wound up sitting in a spot I hadn't scouted or seen deer. Got eaten alive by Mosquitos and backed out a few min before shooting time ended.

Sounds like most of my season this year!! :o

Just got back from a run to town. I got me a bow case and some more quick fletches. We use my boiling pot for chicken noodle soup for the sick childrens, so no quick fletches tonight

Gosh guys, this season is really pushing me to my wits end. Ive hunted what i thought were amazing stands for 7 sits now and have only seen deer from the tree twice. Idk if its the hot weather were having or what, but my confidence has plummeted and its really making it hard to stay in the stand for long hours. This next weekend will pretty much be the last time ill be willing to shoot a doe because pre rut and rut are on their way soon and Id rather have the doe for a big boy to chase instead of taking one home.. I really hope i start to see something moving soon, Its hard to wake up early and hike all the way into where i hunt thinking i might not even see anything let alone get a shot off... We'll see what happens though, hardest season of my life by far.

I feel you on that one. I know that the end of the season was hard for me. I feel like something was left on the table. Keep your head up, and keep after it. And we're here for you!

Well, it's my Monday (I took yesterday off for sick kids, not fun). How was everyone weekend? And what's your week looking like ahead. I put in for a job bid that closed on Friday, so I'm waiting to hear on that. We're also going to have an extended plant shutdown and the upper management team is going to inform everyone about that this morning.

Stay positive and make sure you are having fun - a season can turn around in just minutes. Plus, don't give up on a doe too early...as there is no better way to sharpen your skills and test your nerves...so you are ready when the buck opportunity does arise. Keep after it!

Had to smile - I've had those hunts. You still don't know unless you go - it'll all come together soon...

Weekend was a great fall weekend full of sports and family/friend events...although no hunting:(
This week is my last rough week of no hunting...Saturday afternoon we are hosting at our house an annual Fall Fiesta and Food Drive. We started this about 5 yrs ago as a fall family/friend get together to enjoy the weather and some fall foods, and games and hay rack rides for the kids. We asked everyone to bring can goods to donate to local food pantry...we got a great response and the party has gotten bigger each year - we hope to donate over 600 items to the food pantry this year. A lot of work getting the house and yard ready for it - but also nice that it makes me get the garage/house/yard jobs all caught up.
Should then start getting out hunting each week. My wife and I are running a half-marathon the last weekend of Oct, and then weekends clear up some also. I do have Nov 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th off of work just to hunt...so if I don't have any points for the team by Nov 13th...you can kick me off the team:)

Will be out again tomorrow. Been seeing some little bucks but nothing I want to shoot yet. Haven't had a chance at a doe either.
