How's everyone's season going? I'm hoping to get a few days off soon so I can slip out and up a tree!

How sweet is that? Tell your son congrats! I'd like to see one of those dogs work sometime - I've heard lots of success stories about them...too bad some states and/or public hunting grounds do not allow them.

On my private land now. Had some plans change so I couldn't go out yesterday. Seen 1 so far. I feel like it was a mature buck. Had a deep grunt, big body and heavy hooves. Couldn't get a look at the head gear. Still very early and he never came out of the thick stuff.

Well nothing this morning. Put another stand up before I left. I'll be back this weekend.

I haven't been in a tree stand in a while. Duck season opened here so I've been big into that. I should have hunted tonight because we have a rain front coming through tonight/tomorrow.

The beginning of the season has been awesome this year. I limited out and have been hunting some great new spots. I shoot a few different guns. I just traded in a Browning Silver for a Winchester SX3. They're virtually the same gun internally. I bought the browning when I got hired at my job (both becoming a firefighter and shooting a semiauto were life long goals haha) and was in bind whether I liked the SX3 or the Browning better. I went with the browning for looks because it had a gorgeous stock and forearm and a beautiful silver receiver. However, I found during my first duck season I was WAAAYYY too worried about scratching it or getting it dirty and it just didn't have the right fit. So then I bought a Beretta AL390 on a whim one day at ****'s. I used that for a while too and it's really a great gun. It's killed its share of turkey's and ducks in just one season. But about a week and a half ago I decided the Browning really wasn't getting any use (more of an upland gun, which I don't do much) so I decided to trade it in for the duck blind camo SX3 which fits me MUCH better. This week was the first time using it and it performed flawlessly. It really is a great gun. I'm absolutely in love haha.
