Honestly - Since I began having kids 9 yrs ago I can't say I've really "scouted"...which is fine as I've always preferred to hunt the freshest sign, so unless its the day before I plan to hunt - I'm not too concerned about finding sign.
Now I will pull our deer cam SD card a few times each year - and just did that for the first time Sunday at a family birthday party at our farm. My dad had put the camera up in Aug since I have not been out - one OK buck, the rest of the pics were does/fawns and raccoons having a party each night in front of the cam:) We need to move the camera ASAP. But the deer cam is usually close to my dad's cabin just to make it easy to swap card for anyone going out to the farm...but it does provide some insight as to what is on the property. That property borders some non-hunting state park and it's amazing how all our good buck pics are middle of the night - except during the rut obviously when we get our best pics...I will share some as we start getting better pics.

Luckily for me - 95% of my hunting will be on 3 properties that I could walk blindfolded. Two of them are the 20acre parcel at the cabin, and 35 acre piece just quarter mile down the road. We have multiple stands up on each property and I have a climber...so wind, fresh sign, and recent sightings will determine where I sit. The 3rd property is 2000+ acre state park. I have basically 3 spots I like on that park, and particularly 1 tree that I will focus any of my full day sits when I get any wind coming from southerly direction. My hunting will be extremely limited this fall (compared to what I used to do), but I still fully expect to harvest buck and doe with my bow. I have 4 days off work in Nov to try and sit nearly all day - hope to make the most of it.
The few sits I get in Oct when warmer - I hope to take turns having my 3 oldest tag along. We came so close to shooting a doe last year when I had my 2 oldest in buddy stand with me - would love to make that happen. Season goes to mid-Jan in IL, so if we get to late Nov and I'm still holding my tags for some reason, I can make some time to get off work early for some hunts as fall sports will be done by then. Right now my first planned hunt will be Friday Oct 4th, pick kids up from school at 3:00 and take them with me for opening weekend...Looking forward to it.

Now - my 2yr old is also insisting he gets to go once - but that might be more of a "scouting" trip and just walking around a bit with him on a property I can hunt on edge of town...

I pledged 180pts to our team...and I'm holding myself to it. Should be a great fall - we have a lot of team members that are pretty dang serious about this and onto some nice bucks and properties...anxious to read all the stories and pics. I plan to leave this page up on my phone throughout season so I will be checking this multiple times per day, even from the tree...so keep us all up to date!

Very nice. Awesome to see a plan come together.

I should start getting out in the next week or two. Life's been getting in the way.

Only have had a chance to sit a couple of times and in all honesty just trying to shoot a doe. The unfortunate part is I have had 5 1 1/2 year old bucks in range those sits but zero does. Hoping I get a shot this weekend.

Yeah everything is fine. Just had some unforseen expenses that dug into my gas budget for the month. My work schedule hasn't exactly been cooperating either. A lot work till midnight then be back at 6 am. still just working 40 hours but turnarounds every other day just take their toll

So I just got out to my ground blind on the field edge I hunted last week. But when I got down here the only thing left was my chair. The blind is no where to be seen. I wanna say it got blown over and the landowner picked it up, but the limbs I used to brush it in are still here. So I just took those limbs and stuck them in the stone wall. But I'm a little concerned. If it got stolen that's one thing, I'd rather have it get stolen than upset the owner by leaving it here. I should have asked, but he told me to put up whatever stands I wanted and has never really cared what I did on the property.
