Season runs to Jan 1st we got a long season here due to being over runned with them. Too many does. I see a few here but not as many as some others about a mile away from me. We just planted 3 acres in pines to provide some bedding areas so I'll probably start seeing more here in the future.

Welcome Jeff! Pretty cool having bears running around your woods...hope you get a crack at one! This might be a deer contest but I hope everyone shares anything hunting/outdoor related this fall...bears, bunnies, I love to hear about it.

Won't be long and we can start putting some points on the scorecard...Good Luck everyone!

pulled my memory cards yesterday afternoon. still plenty of pics of clockwork, he's gonna be a nice 9 pointer...but no pics of chunk for the past 3 weeks at least, even at night time. I'm kind of shifting my focus towards clockwork, seems more realistic for me. only problem though, my son is wanting him...there is still a nice basket 8 pointer running around im gonna see if my son will go for that basket 8 for his first buck...lol is that wrong of me?

just looked out the window behind me.....its the same doe and fawn at my fruit trees 11:30am. I see them daily, they bed down in the woodline and watch my every move...lol there both getting a pass from me this year, I cant orphan a fawn, and I cant/wont shoot a fawn, besides I think he's a buck from the patch of fur on top of his head.

Good to know that you're still seeing Clockwork. Maybe Chunk will show back up. I keep seeing sign in my yard, but I never see them.

I'm hoping my mock scrape with a dripper will be irresistible to him (chunk) come late October. don't know if I can wait that long though!! might have to punch out clockwork if I cant take it anymore!! either one will be my first true wall hanger!!

Now because I'm new to this, how does a mock scrape and dripper work?

I keep mock scrapes goin year round, because deer actually use them year round..just not as intensely as during the rut and pre-rut. technically my mock scrapes aren't mock scrapes anymore, because several bucks have taken them over, and are now regularly used on a heavy used run I created. to make a mock scrape, I spray down my boots of course, and get a stick and scrape away the leaves down to bare dirt in a 2 foot diameter circle near a smaller size tree with a branch hanging over the scrape. seeing as I have 2-3 decent size bucks, I chose a tree 3-5 inches in diameter for them to tear up in October with there antlers. I urinate in the scrape every other day to get them attracted to it, and I also use a scrape generator (contains buck forehead gland juice on a string) on the licking branch above the scrape to get them even more hooked. it basically smells like another buck they are not familiar with...gets them curious, and in late October as the rut gets closer, pisses them off...they want to know who this buck is on there run, and the dripper (rut use only)seals the deal only dripping during daylight hours..with buck urine...will draw the bucks out in daytime to check the scrape or to try and catch the buck at the scrape. they work well in some places, other places not so much. we cant bait or "feed" the deer in RI, and I don't have land cleared yet for my corn, turnips and fruit trees. this seems to get them moving through the area frequently. almost all my trail cam pics are set over my prime scrape, which is 75 yards from where im sitting!! I have a nice straight tree for my climber 15 yards off the run, that I go up 25'. earlier this summer I brought my 3d target out to the scrape, and got in my climber for a mock hunt!!!

look at chunk......lol im so obsessed with this guy.....

but how long could you NOT shoot at clockwork for????? lol

Swamp - I'm excited for you...really hope to see you behind one of these bucks! Your trail cam pics should help you make a decision on which one is most likely to offer a shot...
