Sounds like some good action though! I too messed up yesterday. Morning started off great with my daughter getting a deer. In the afternoon I headed over to a brand new property to hunt near a loaded oak. Was up on my saddle by 4. About 4:30 2 small bucks came out and fed on the field in front of me. Around 6 or so I readjusted myself in the tree a little and a doe saw my movement and blew in the cover behind me. I stood still and eventually she started to investigate. I really thought she was gonna step out in the open but she was very cautious. I noticed a small gap she was about to walk through so I pointed my camera in that gap and got ready to draw. She moves quick and I try to stop her and draw. Had a couple small limbs over vitals and against my better judgement I decided to let the arrow fly. WHAM!!!! My arrow goes only 10 yards instead of 20. 2 arrows fall out of my quiver. And my string is now dangling from my recurve. In the process of drawing I apparently hadn’t noticed the camera arm somehow got between my string and limb. Deer got away unharmed. I packed up and headed home. Today I restrung the bow and fortunately it seems fine. I just wasn’t settled in the moment and I’m glad it worked out that way rather than a gut or shoulder shot deer. I may slip out tomorrow AM for a couple hours.
Yes, it was good action. Of the six days I actually hunted, I saw elk every day. Yesterday, I saw 18 mule deer does, not a single buck. Here are few of the photos I took. They sort of capture the things I was seeing. I am so glad things worked out with the bow and deer. The Lord has a way of saying…”wait for it.” Your day will come and so will mine. The important thing is we are out there!
Here is a photo of the 20 elk yesterday morning, 550 yards out, and the tree line they were moving towards. The other 13 were way up there above timberline. Zoom in…the elk are to the right and below those yellow aspen trees in the lower left of the photo. You cannot see the 13 above tree line even zooming in. I was using my 15-power vortex glass
Love hearing about the action you guys are having. My schedule hasn’t lined up lately and I haven’t been out for a couple weeks and it’s looking like it might be a couple more before I get back in a tree. Been watching the property with a couple cell cams and the buck are finally starting to show up, nothing big yet, but I’m hoping by the time I get back up there I’ll have something to go hard after!
Indiana begins tomorrow as well. The weather's not what I'd prefer but ya gotta go! Good luck to you. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

Got my bow back. Wiseguy release is sweet. Had to move my peep and sight. All good. PTO locked in Friday. I’ll be in the tree Friday night unless I can convince the ol’ lady to leave tomorrow night Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well I hadn’t shared my story yet from Monday AM. Missed a great opportunity. Put my kids on the bus at 6:30 and rushed over to a nearby property I can hunt where I already had sticks hung. Nice light rain. I no sooner got set up at first light and a doe came in. She walked up the heavy path I scouted a couple weeks back. Came to the base of my tree and circled it. Never spooked. I think the rain and Nosejammer/Evercalm helped. She climbed up the path and gave me a 15 yard quartering away shot. I came to full draw and felt great but decided to pass. I wasn’t sure my camera had enough light and if I had it pointed up the hill enough. I have plenty of opportunities at does and in the past I’ve not always got stuff on camera like I wanted to. It felt good to have control on that moment. She takes off and around 8:30AM 3 does come in and walk the bottom below me. Big lead doe stops in an opening at 20. Once again I came to full draw and took aim. She didn’t have her legs back, but the leg closest to me wasn’t forward either. She was basically stopped standing straight up and down. I let the arrow fly and to me it looks like a heart shot. But two strides in the arrow just pops out. I don’t hear a crash. I gave it a few minutes and went down to find just a little blood and fur on the broadhead, but no blood on the arrow. Not good. I did a search and found zero blood. Went to my house to look at footage on a laptop and realized I was about an inch or two low and hit her in the elbow joint. No penetration. So that was frustrating to say the least. Glad I am getting stickbow close but hopefully I can make it happen tomorrow when I go back out. Trying a new property in the morning.
Set up on a nice ridge line. Had two smaller bucks cruise by and trigger my cell cam this morning. Wind is right. Hopefully something walks on by here in a few
In the stand. First sit. We didn’t end up driving out til this morning. Warm today. Wind is good though. Hoping to get something done today. Tomorrow is gonna be rough. 87* forecasted Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
