Got back from the hunting land and did some lane clearing, placed out some more trail cams and finished up making a tree stand for one of my boys (easy access and right off runways). Can’t wait for the season to open up in a couple weeks!
Okay, Gents. I am back in Colorado and looking forward to next weekend's backyard hunt. I have a deer, bear, and elk tag in a game management unit I have hunted since I was 14. Any deer will be targeted, mostly because I can use the carcass to hunt bear. Bear is my priority. As far as elk, IMO any elk with a bow is a trophy...that's the way I see it. So, any elk I have an opportunity to arrow is fair game. My S. Dakota buck scored 103 and some change. Like I said, rarely do these "Hill" deer ever go above 115 inches. I hope the teamies in good genetic areas can make up some ground. I feel an average of 150 inches per team member wins this thing (1164 points won it last year. 9x150=1350)! We can do it!
You got us off to a great start! Good luck on your upcoming hunts! I’ve been elk hunting 3 times and have yet to get one although I’ve been close. Next year I will head back to Montana, Lord willing. Wife and I have an “every 3 years” elk hunting agreement. Fortunately I can hunt whitetails and turkeys every year!
How long does a sting from wasp/hornet typically itch for? I'm blown away with the sting I received, while putting up stand, still itching a week and a half later.
Thanks, Travis. If you ever think about Colorado for elk, give me a holler! That goes for everyone. I love sharing my backyard...but it does look like the state is making it a little harder on non-residents as far as tags are concerned. But, whatever I can do to help, I will...
They itch for a while. We had 3 yellow jacket ground nests I had to burn out this year. Got stung twice while mowing. Bad drought in our area so I think that’s caused more of them. Travis - SE Ohio Shedding Light Outdoors Matthew 5:16
Well, it looks like we are in First place! Yeah Baby! Dig deep, Guys! Let's take this to the end. Post your start date...
Sept 28th archery opens in Ohio. Runs straight through February without a break. I’m getting more and more activity on my two cell cams I have over rope scrapes. Mostly does but a couple small bucks. I’ve gone out a couple times and scouted some newer places I have and located some loaded white oaks. Hoping early next week to get back out and see if any are dropping yet (hopefully not) and see if there’s any scrapes nearby. I grew up just doing deer drives and gun hunting. I never had much of an understanding of how deer moved and what they ate, etc. Didn’t start bowhunting til 2009. So I’ve slowly been learning more and more. The last two years I’ve killed my Ohio buck on Nov 3rd. 22’ was over a super hot scrape line, last year was over a decoy. This year I’m keying in on food sources and those early scrapes to see if I can get on a buck, or at least punch that doe tag early. I excited for it all to begin but trying not to get too crazy and burn myself (and my wife) out before it gets really good.
Season opens in WI next Saturday, 9/14. I’m hoping to get at least one of my boys a shot at something early on and go from there. Our property usually heats up mid-late October through mid November and I’ve already lined up a couple extra long weekends to really attack those days. Can’t wait for the season to start!
Oct. 1st start dare for me. Cameras are very active but nothing big for about 3 weeks now. It will be interesting to see if our coming cooler weather motivates the bigguns! Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
Sounds like we'll be ready when the seasons do open in the various states. I am excited for you gents to begin!
My season starts Monday September 16th. I was thinking of taking the day off, but I'm gonna save my time for November. I think I'll make it out on Friday the 20th for a morning hunt!
