Love it! I once read that every second with a leopard equates to 100 stitches. I love hunting the things that hunt back. I'm a dog person too! Cats sort of get me going... they are indeed resilient.
I'm good with all of it! I'm Joe (47)! I live in Eastern CT, aka land of the booners......I wish, lol! I hunt public land where I grew up hunting with my dad in the late 80s and early 90s. It's a rough go where I hunt. If you see a deer, you've had an amazing day. I know, it sounds stupid right? I have to agree with you, but hunting anywhere else feels wrong. I have so much history and great memories in these woods. I feel like a switch has been thrown in me this year, and I need to take a life or two in the woods. I'm shooting everything except for fawns this year! I should be able to get in the woods on Friday's and Saturdays this season and plan on taking a week off the last week of October or the first week of November. I'm a licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of RI and an independent contractor for a private group practice. Which means, I make my schedule and say what hours/days I'm working. I'm currently doing a M-TH work week, but because of the heaviness of what I do, I have difficulty finding the time to be on here during the work week. I will contribute to this thread as much as possible, and will forever be an active posting member on the Live From The Stand Thread. I'm looking forward to sharing the woods with y'all!
I LOVE the Tommy Boy reference team name idea, but seeing as we got a cat killing legend on our team, I feel we need to go with the 9-Lives!
Well, I made it to South Dakota and will start the 2024 season in stand tomorrow. I am so hoping to arrow my very first velvet whitetail. The scouting report is, "some have already rubbed out." I saw a lot of roadkill deer and antelope driving across Wyoming. Two of the deer I saw were in velvet, but they were both muleys. All finger crossed for a successful hunt in the morning. Hardly an expert, Swamp Stalker. If anything, I have been very fortunate to take my game (the love of bow hunting) to many courts around the World. The Lord has blessed me with many amazing adventures.
You know, the things which has made hunters so revered both past and present is their ability to share. That is really our true value. Nine Lives is a catch all. Not only does it express resilience, but also, at its core, it captures each one of us individually. The age old questions of what, when, where, why, and how are going to be asked. I hope as a team we can answer. I never want to see Team Nine Lives in any position on the contest thread but first! Share…that’s the chemistry which makes a team…and us as hunters. these are my thoughts anyway, as I wait for the start of another awesome God givejn day in the woods. I am curious which of the Lord’s creatures will break the silence.
Ask and you shall receive! The mission: drive to South Dakota and arrow a velvet buck, since I have never had this opportunity. The parameter: the deer needed to have at least four points on one side. In past hunts in the Black Hills, I rarely see mature bucks over 115 inches, and most are genetically 8 pointers. Mission accomplished! He is a good representation of a velvet Hills deer. He has 5 on one side and four points on the other.
Awesome man. Congrats on the early kill and a velvet buck! 9 Lives on the board already!! Sent from my SM-T500 using Tapatalk
From all of us at team 5 , thank you for starting off strong! It's going to be an awesome competition this year. Congrats on the kill man. Good luck team Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
Heck yes!!! Way to start us off man!!! And what an accomplishment. Congrats!!!! Travis - SE Ohio Shedding Light Outdoors Matthew 5:16
Thanks, brother. This deer helps get a monkey off my back… he dropped in his tracks. The last two bucks I shot (perfectly) went unrecovered. They went from private to private ground and I could not get permission to pursue on the adjacent properties. Having this deer in hand is a major relief. We need to talk about does. I may be able to help if I can get tags. When do you hit Colorado? What can I do to help with your hunt?
Fix, we are coming for you, brother. Nine is just starting to fuel up! Thanks! Good luck to you! I know your team will keep us on our toes!
If everything comes together, hopefully next season I can make it out there to hunt something. Whether it be a muley, elk, bighorn....I'm dying to get out there!
