Thanks, Jim. Me too. I really believe I would have found him last night but I didn’t want to risk it. Despite blood everywhere, I felt my shot was too far back. He did bleed like a stuck pig all the way to his final resting place. I am happy he is in the bag. There’s a lot of meat to salvage.
Reflecting, this “deer in all 50 states” thing of mine has been a daunting task, especially in light of trips to states like Louisiana (I was there on three different occasions) where I sat for a total of 21 days before even seeing a deer. In New Mexico, I arrowed a huge 5x5 desert mule deer right at dusk. Feral hogs carted the carcass away during the night, I found a rototilled blood/fur spot in the soil the next morning. I have killed some dandies and some not so dandies in my quest. That never really mattered to me. The trophy has always been the adventure, and the icing on the cake continues to come in the form of good friends made along the way. This new trip to Minnesota is no exception. I may die before I get the remaining 24 states, but I will never regret the amazing ride. Thanks gents for letting me share it with you.
I didn't make it out this weekend. I had a honey-do list that needed attention this weekend. I intended on getting out yesterday afternoon, but while I was making the final cut to some carpet in the basement I sliced my finger open with a carpet knife. Ended up in the ER and received four stitches. I'll still be going out this weekend. PTO start Thursday.
Team nine lives is an appropriate name for this team, lol. Those of you who haven’t been in a hospital yet this season, be careful!
Leaving for the farm tomorrow morning. Should be really good opportunities to pick up a doe. We need some doe on our scoreboard.
Well done! Man, oh man...50 points? That deer's parents would be so disappointed! Congrats on a super nice deer, James! That will put us 30 points out of third place. Keep at it gents!
