Travis, so thankful that you can even reply on here after that. A true miracle. Get well soon brother! You were a great teammate when we teamed up a few years ago and an all around great guy! Thinking of you and your family! Sent from my SM-S908U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Sitting in the woods right now and unfortunately the most exciting part of the morning so far has been watching a couple squirrels chase each other. Slow start, but I’m up here through the weekend, so hopefully things will start to heat up.
I went all day yesterday and the only ones I saw were the ones I spooked going in and out of the woods Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
I went and hit up some public land last night after work. After a long walk in back of this park, I only had about an hour til last shooting light. Once I was up in the tree, not 10 minutes later I see a big buck making its way through the CRP. I called, he seemed interested, but ultimately disappeared into the adjacent forest preserve. I'm going to go back out Saturday and try to move in closer to that trail. He did what I thought the deer would do. I just didn't set up in the correct place. We shall see.
Came close to getting one for one of my sons tonight. Had a real nice 8 pointer come out into the field we were watching just after shooting hours so he couldn’t take a shot. We’ll be back after it again tomorrow morning.
A couple more close calls for us this morning. One of my sons was sitting with me while the other sat with my dad. Around 8:15 Brayden and I had a 1.5 old 6 pointer come within about 45 yards while we were in a natural ground blind near a pothole. So close, but he didn’t come any closer. Just before 9 my dad and Austin had a wide 4 pointer come in and check some scrapes on a field about 200 yards away from us. Austin had the buck at 20 yards checking a scrape when he came to full draw, but bumped his broadhead against the window and the buck bounded off. So close yet again! Great learning experiences for both of them, and the type of excitement that will get them hooked and keep them coming back for more!
Travis, brother I am happy you are okay! A speedy recovery….man! I am out to help young Cameron get his first elk. The mountains are kicking his back side. We have seen some great sights…deer and sheep, but no elk yet. I will get some more photos up later. Keep at it gents!
Set up on a good spot. 5 doe and a fork buck. Drew back on a doe just never cleared some brush for the shot. Might head back k out there in the morning. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We saw some elk but they were too far for us to reach by last light. We also saw an enormous pronghorn buck…a total of four species in one day.
Back out this morning. Crispy 31*. No deer yet. Sitting in CRP tucked on 3 shrubs. Bedding area and golf course about 100 yds west of me. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Where in Kansas, Russ? That should be a welcome change. Kansas has some super-sized deer. I am driving to Nebraska this coming weekend for a quick hunt, and then I'll be on a plane to Minnesota a week from tomorrow. I cannot wait to be back in stand!
That’s where I am originally from. I hunt family ground. I will be in north central Kansas. Little town of Delphos. Yeah the 16 point I had targeted my cousin shot the third day of the season. Across the river from my stand 50 yds away. lol damn little sh!t. I have two 10s and two 8s as hit listers. But hell when the rut hits it’s game on. Where in Nebraska will you be?
