So this is what it feels like And Joe you got some nice bucks running around!! Hopefully you get the opportunity to take one out this year.
hey guys great choice on the Avatar, tag line and captians. to kind of catch up with everyone esle, i have a 2001 chevy 2500 diesel. love the power! so far on my cam all i have are does and fawns, hoping they will attract some big boys once the rut comes around!
Just pulled from a couple cameras. Two 8 pointers. Lots of does. Nothing great yet. This is the best picture from today. I also had a stand put up in a perfect spot, but the tree isn't going to work with the stand I put up. I just got the sticks up the tree today and tried it. First hang on and sticks I purchased for this tree hoping it would work, but it is leaning too far forward to be able to sit there for any period of time. I'm a little bummed out. It had good cover and two perfect shooting lanes in a great spot. I was even up in a loader with chainsaw making this spot work. Oh well, I guess I learned that I can't be in a spot leaning down for my comfort level. If I rotate on the tree it won't work for shooting lanes at all. I knew in the beginning it might not work, but I had to try it. I think I have a good idea of where I'll put it now. Straight tree in a finger that comes out of a deep hollow. My other stand is on the edge of this finger, but sometimes last year the bucks would get hung up in the finger until too dark. Only problem is this tree is wide open. I might search for a better spot away from that stand. The property I hunt borders a big timber to the east so the wind in relation to my stands really doesn't make a big difference in if I put them apart. We have the feed they come to eat in the evenings. Any suggestions are welcome.
Great job with the Logo guys!! I'm good with Matt as captain. If I remember right I was on a team with Matt many years ago on huntingnet. The first pic is from last year & both bucks made thru the season. The pic was taken on a saturday morning I let my wife talk me into staying home & going to a meeting at my daughters school. My stand is 10yds to the left of pic. The second pic is from this year.
Here's a big 6 I'd love to get this year. This pic is from last year in the neighboring subdivision that doesn't allow hunting. I stalked up to 30yds on this guy last year & when I made my last move to draw a deer had come in behind me & blew & spooked him off. I had cover 150yds in 1 1/2hrs & he had no idea I was there. In the center of the last picture you can see the tips of his rack. Very exciting hunt!!
So when does everybody's season start...here in Wi we start on the 15th, Michigan its the 1st of Oct....I am so ready for the opener!
Sep 29, but my college lacrosse team I play for has a scrimmage that day, so I can only get out that morning, but I might get lucky and have enough time to get out in the afternoon, can't wait, can barely focus on classes just got deer on the mind
I start on Sept 7th! Just made a trip up to some public land yesterday to hang a camera. I've hunted the area before and it's got a great bedding area and some food nearby - mostly acorns though. I've never setup a cam there before though so I found a good trail intersection and setup a mock scrap and hung my camera. Then I found a great tree nearby to hang my stand in. Has good cover and it's overlooking a relatively clear area with two large red oaks. Deer have already been there feeding (saw some droppings) and saw some old rubs from last year. For the early season I think this spot is really gonna be good. It's got a ton of deadfall skirting one side, and a lake skirting the other side so it's almost like a natural funnel with food. The surrounding area is pretty thick so this little clearing seems like the place to be. Gonna hunt there at least once next weekend and pull my cam pics. Excited!
My area is definitely a cruising zone during the rut. I get all of my buck pics from about late Oct through January. Definitely not complaining, they just seem to spend all of their summer months on neighboring properties. I do hold a lot of does though. Checking my camera i saw 5, which is more than I had pics of!
I hope to go out Monday & hang a couple of stands & check cameras. I'm ready for some cooler weather, it's been too hot the last few days to get out & hang stands. I don't see a lot of bucks this time of year but see a lot of does. When the rut kicks in, it's not uncommon to see 4-5 different bucks chasing does during one sit.
