Heading off for what looks to be another beautiful morning in the woods! 55 degrees - should be in a tree in an hour and a half. :)

Well that was a short sit. I think my boots are shot. They seem to leak on occasion and this morning it happened. Just walking through moderately wet grass and my socks were soaked. On top of that I think I didn't let them dry properly last time or the time before that because they definitely don't smell good  If I can smell them from a foot away, i'm sure the deer are just laughing at me.

Got down early this morning so I can get some food and go look for another pair. Hopeful for this evening!

Hammer - I would like to look at that buck in real time also. Hopefully you get the chance.

Slider - Go cover those stinky feet with some good no smelling boots. Wish those existed. Good luck this afternoon. I got a feeling you are ready to get one today. If you could send some fresh loin to everyone on the team once you do that would really be appreciated. It feels more and more like fall and not too many days until deer hunting is here.

Good luck to anyone else that can hunt right now.

This is the longest 10 days of the year.........it's some weird time warp where I get up day after day after day for work but time seems to stand still. :)

Post from last night in the Live from the stand thread:

Had a good bit of action tonight! Right around sunset I watched a doe make her way towards me, feeding and working a licking branch along the way. She started down a trail towards me and stopped at about 40-45 yards watching something to my left. Turns out there was a big-bodied 8pt I had seen a few weeks ago just 30 yards out but in some 4-5 foot grass/brush.

He moved right to the doe and went down to get a drink at the creek so I didn't get a chance to shoot. About 10 minutes later, another deer behind me on the hill blew (either saw or smelled me) and put the others on alert. They quietly disappeared and that was that.

Not a bad evening and hoping to do better next time

Haha yeah. Luckily I solved that earlier in the day. Made a trip to Dlcks sporting goods and picked up a pair of their Field and Stream brand boots (400gr Thinsulate) with ScentLok and GoreTex. http://www.****ssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13148739

Not cheap but after I switched out the paper-thin insoles with some real boot insoles they're very comfy, waterproof, breathable and after last night they're getting broken in nicely. Best of all, they don't smell!!

I think quality boots are one of the most overlooked equipment purchases (I did with the last pair). Nothing like having comfortable dry/warm feet and nothing can ruin a hunt like cold/wet/sore feet.

As for the deer behind me winding me - could have been just me, or the doe-p I had out. Maybe my thermacell. Going again Saturday and I'm not gonna try anything except maybe the thermacell and a good spray-down before I head in.

I agree on boots being very important for comfort. Good pair of socks goes a long ways too. Wet feet are terrible. I figured you had gotten new boots. Just giving you crap.

I got the same boots slider, I think in 1000gr if I remember correctly, little too hot even in the winter, but good rubber boots for the price

Haha yeah I figured. I actually laughed at myself when I thought about it

Yeah 1000 gram would be a little much. The pair I had was 200 gram which was pretty much useless when it got to be late season - even with foot warmers I'd be slightly uncomfortable for long sits. Last night these 400 gram boots were slightly warm but I think the GoreTex helps a bit.

I have a pair of 1200 gram snow boots for serious snow. Basically a huge rubber bottom, leather upper snow boot with a 1200 gram removable liner. They're heavy and clunky but man do they keep you warm walking through deep snow or in a tree all day. Didn't actually get to use them but once or twice last year.

Yeah my feet sweat a lot even in the winter when it's freezing and toe warmers didn't help at all, I just sucked it up. I'm thinking about using my 400 gr red wing work boots instead, or walk slower this winter lol

Welp, messed around at the range last night and adjusted my rest to see if my groups got any better. I'd say they did...

Finally will be able to get out for my first sit tomorrow morning. Got to hang a quick stand and check a trail camera tonight. Hopefully so encouraging news will be on my card.

That last week is a long one!

    Good luck!

I plan on getting out tomorrow afternoon and sit until dark. I'm gonna go to some public land and hunt from the ground - I may still hunt an area or brush-in a quick blind and stay awhile. 50% chance of rain the last few hours of light so that may or may not be a good thing. Also may hang a camera if I can find a good spot.

    Already can't wait!

    Total hours: 19.5

    Bucks Seen: 3

Really though, I'm just bored at work and want to get out there!
