Thats happened to me several times. So worried about one deer that you stop paying attention to other ones coming in.

Good luck tonight. Cant wait until Oct 1st!

So I was hoping to add some good news for our team today after going to check a camera last night but not so much.... Apparently someone thought they needed the camera more than I did... First time I have had this happen to me. This was my best spot and where I was planning on going opening morning. This was going to be my final check to assure me of where I was going to hunt. As I walked up the large hill through the woods to my stand and camera location something just felt wrong.. There were like drag marks almost as if someone was dragging there feet. As I continued walking in I actually anticipated my stand being gone as well but for whatever reason it's still there. Hope I can add something better for us after the weekend.

Sorry to hear that Kyle, that sucks! I have all my Coverts lock to the tree with the Python cable as well as the password set and the housing locked. Cameras are expensive and I can't afford to have any stolen just like everyone else!

Damn that blows man nothing worse than having a camera stolen, so dang expensive. I checked my camera again today and still no bucks on camera and I bumped more does walking in. Seems like I can walk in at anytime of the day and there will be deer there. Its in urban land so it's not a huge deal, but still annoys me.

    Damn thieves... :hater:

Stealing cams is the only reason I don't own any. I hunt on private land but it gets poached every year by a gang of no-good'ers. I've even been threatened by the bas*ards in the woods before (gun season). They don't archery hunt, but they have been known to sneak through the woods during archery season with a rifle (I've never seen them though).

I have the DEC's TIPP-Line programmed into my cell phone but hopefully I won't run into them during season this year. Last year it was a 'tad frightening.

Anyway... last Saturday I was walking in an 'Out of the Darkness' suicide awareness/prevention event in Ithaca and I won a gift certificate to a local archery shop (Klein's Archery in Dryden, NY... you can Google it - he's on Facebook). So, the owner has hunted all over the world and his shop is loaded with trophy mounts. I didn't know what to use my $25 certificate on; so I just walked around for awhile. I was standing in front of the broadhead section and he asked me what I shoot. "Muzzy MX-4's" I told him. He pointed around the shop and said every animal in there was shot with a Slick Trick head.

Bottom line... I walked out with two packages of RazorTrix's (because of only pulling 50#'s) and a package of replacement heads. He says I won't be disappointed. OH... he also turned me onto 125gr heads vs 100's.

Now I gotta' change my signature.

    Sorry to hear that!! :(

I hunted last night from 3-8p. Bumped one fork buck out of bed on my way in but at least they're still hanging around the area.

I don't have the luxury of hanging a stand for the season - this is 135 acres of semi-public land (you need a permit and reservation and they only let 4 hunters per day on the property. I rarely see other hunters though so that's good) so I had to find a suitable tree for my hang-on.

I chose a nice spot near a cluster of trees in this field on the east side of this stream that runs through. Hung my stand and cleared some branches so it took me a good 40 minutes to get setup. It was almost 4pm and I sat until about 7:00 until I saw any activity.

Saw the same big doe and fawn that I saw the night before except this time they came out on the other side of the stream and didn't get any closer. Didn't get any shot opportunities.

But I did get to see a ton of deer on my way out after dark - probably close to 15 or 20 in the fields. A lot of them come in too late to shoot but if I move way on the other side of the creek next time, I'm pretty sure I'll be in range of a few that come in early. I've consistently seen deer on that side the last three times I've hunted and the one time I scouted from the road. I just hope the corn isn't cut before next time because that'll change their whole pattern. They're still feeding on browse right now - corn is still pretty green and there's no beans around for miles.

Hey just a quick I'm back!
Flights and time changes back to PA kicked my butt so I've been recovering for the last few days trying to figure out how to sleep and still be productive at a full time job! I probably won't do much this weekend but sleep, eat, shoot the bow a bit and watch football.
Prep really gets serious next weekend, but this cooler weather sure has me fired up! The new wife has her very first hunting license this year and wants to try to kill a deer this year so we might be in a double set on PA's first day, her with the Strykforce crossbow and me with the compound. (She shattered her elbow years ago in a car accident and just can't pull enough weight on a compound to hunt with)
She just wants to try to shoot a doe but I know whats going to happen.........:D
Don't worry if one of the big boys comes by I will bump her when she's ready to pull the trigger. ;) hehehe.

I was about to say. You cant let her shoot a nice bike. haha. Its very cool that she wants to go hunting with you though.

Well still got couple more weeks but I keep prepping and re-prepping. It keeps me occupied until the time comes. Ill be shooting some bow this weekend out of my climber, just to get my shooting angles down. Also be checking the cams and see what I got.

Our high is in the low 60's tomorrow, really makes me want to get out in the stand!! I have 3 more stands to hang hopefully this weekend. That will be a total of 14 stands on 350 acres for 4 of us to hunt, plus 2 of us use a climber just to change things up.

Sorry about the camera Kyle. Good luck with the RazorTrix Jerry.

This weather is absolutely great! People are starting to get into the fields pretty early right now. Good for where I hunt. We have a two acre food plot. We just planted some clover and rye yesterday to help with erosion on our two farms in a couple other spots that we usually don't hunt. We just got a nice little rain that should help germination. October is getting closer everyday!

Thanks guys. What can you do ya know... I will have a good ending to this story when it's all said and done. I hope we all do. I can't wait to be in a tree Saturday morning waiting to greet the sun. Can't wait to go through the season hearing reading everyone's encounters and stories. Hopefully we will all be successful and safe!!
