Good Luck Slider... hopefully you can put down a dandy buck or a big doe.

Got a call the other day from the land owner where I shot the 197 last year. He told me some of his land was getting select cut. He said someone would be out this week or next to start marking trees. Real bummer for me with just over a week till the opener. :( Good Luck to all.

Sorry to hear this, hopefully it won't be too bad!!

I'm not trying to brag after your news mrantlerman but I'm getting pumped about this season!
I just got a text from a friend who owns 40 acres next to my lease. He said a bachelor group of 5 bucks were out in his field, 3 going 150-160 & the other 2 going 130's. He knows his bucks, he's taken a 160 & a 170 off his farm.
I hope to have some pics of these bucks next time out.

Well I'm off to a rocky start this morning. Woke up an hour late because I set my alarm for 4pm instead of 4am lol. Forgot my seat cushion so I'm getting a little sore sitting here. Got in at sunrise and bumped two deer from under/near the stand. On the plus side though, got a little footage of two fawns that appeared later and their mom who stayed just out of range and the permitherin spray I put on my clothes seems to be working!

Good Luck! I'm very jealous of someone else being in a stand.

Hopefully just marking trees and getting in there much later. Still not good, but maybe not as bad.

Didn't go out this evening - it's still 86 degrees here! Wish I was hunting the same property tomorrow based on the pics we pulled today but I'm not able to. Gonna go out to another property tomorrow with tons of does and try again.

Would you guys say he's 2 1/2 or a year and a half? I'm thinking 2 1/2 even though he looks small. Most of the deer around here seem smaller anyway.

Saw a nice 8pt this morning! Out of velvet and he looked pretty big already. He kept just out of range unfortunately. Had two guys come in "late" (about 30 minutes after sunrise) and bumped a small buck, doe and fawn about 60 yards from my stand. Public land so what can ya do? Oh well.

Wanted to go out again this evening but looks like we're getting some severe storms. Guess I'll have to wait till Monday!

Slider46, I would agree with you on the deer pic as a 2 1/2. Nice looking buck! All bucks on the cams are velvet free now. They are also all small. Got the itch real bad now, watching lots of youtube hunting videos and shooting my bow. Only a week to go!!! Good Luck to all!!

Well today I checked a couple of trail cameras. I was disappointed to see that there were no shooter bucks, just a small 8 and couple other small bucks. Not looking good for this year but did get some does so hopefully get opportunity to take one out this year.

OK boys, going out to the Farm today to check my cameras! I made a mock scrape with a dripper about 10 days ago, I think I left this camera on video mode  .... I hope some new bucks show up, the more the merrier!

I just made a mock scrape Friday. Didn't put a camera on it yet. Going to make one more mock scrape in the same draw. I'm not seeing much for bigger bucks. I know they are around, but I don't have pictures. Hoping September or October brings them in. September is going to be a long month.

I went out Sunday & hung a couple of stands & checked cameras. I had 2 small bucks, a lot of does & several coyotes. One of the other guys on the lease sent me this one from his camera. This one makes it onto the top 5 hit list!!

    Nice!

Hunted yesterday afternoon and saw a ton of does and fawns. I decided about 30 minutes before sunset that If the one doe I was watching, came close enough I would shoot her. So I was watching her and moving a little too much to get a better view around some branches and another doe & fawn saw me and blew. They were just to my left in some chest high grass. Needless to say all the others went on alert and slowly left the area.

Trying again tonight and I'm going to move to the other side of the field where most of the deer were feeding. They seem to favor that side I think because it stays in the sun longer. I was on the shady side last night.
