Went out this weekend and only saw 3 does. They were to far so I came up empty.

Should get a chance to get in some good stand time this weekend... The weather has been really weird so I'm not sure what to expect... Could dip into the mid 20's in my neck of the woods this weekend - which is considerably colder than it normally is... Really need some dryer/warmer weather so the farmers can get going with the harvest....

Some of you guys may know this but for those who dont...scored on a doe yesterday. I got her at 3:50 before I could even get settled into my tree. Shot her at 6 yards and she ran about 60-70. Lung/heart shot. Going after the big boys now! Good luck everyone!

i just entered the measurements in the score thread. This guy was a borderline shooter, we get two buck tags in NC, the rest is history.

Sorry guys for the confusion, after running the measurements through excel real quick I also came up with 103 6/8" gross. I've updated the contest thread.

I went out this evening and scouted some new ground to hunt in the same area I hunt now. It looked promising from what we saw. We hunted after that in my usual area. The farmer still had a corn field up by the stand I wanted to hunt out of. I could only see 20 yards in all directions from where I was. I didn't see any deer from the stand. We did see 2 large bucks and 2 small bucks when we were leaving in the same field.

Had my daughter out for the youth hunt this weekend and it was a cold miserable hunt.It was windy, snowy and cold. I have to say she hung in there. we had deer come in either too early or too late. We even had a fork 10 yards away on her backside she couldn't get turned on him. Sunday night she got a shot late but missed. She thought she got it and yelled I just shot a deer and flew down the ladder. She wants to go again this weekend, and a hunter was born.

Make no mistake I"m tickled with my buck. I have several "good" properties and I've only got maybe 2 bucks that will better him and not by just a whole lot. I'm not quiet a trophy hunter yet, if it'll go on the wall it'll go in the back of the truck and I've already dropped this guy off. Good luck too all, I've still got a buck tag and several doe tags. I'll keep you posted.

Nice job on the deer fellas!!

I made it out this last weekend a fair amount. Took the time to drive several hours and hunt some of my favorite early season spots. I had several opportunities at smaller bucks but nothing I really wanted to shoot while stand hunting. Did spot a little bit nicer (not huge) 4x4 whitetail bedded down in a pretty stalkable spot. I snuck to within about 25 yards but didn't have a shot. Wind swirled or he just sensed something and blew out. Looking back I should have just hunkered down at about 30-35 yards and just waited for him to stand...

Weather has been really wet and the crop harvest is falling WAY behind.... I'm sure glad I got my KS trip planned!

    Congrats on the buck Crittergetter.

I've hit it hard every day this week....no "real" buck sightings. My honey hole has let me down a few times so far. But I'll keep going b.c the big boys like to come thru there. Just have to be there at the right time.

    Good luck everyone!

Sorry I haven't been on here in a bit. Hunting hard got a nice 8pt hanging around and he is my target. Not huge but 120+-. Lots of little bucks!!! East winds last couple days and I can only hunt afternoons in this wind. Seeing most of my deer in the AM.
Now here is a good one. Seen a couple Does cross the field, when they got to the old railroad grade the stopped and ran back a little then stopped. The big Doe had her ears pinned to her head. I knew she was pissed about something. BIG BUCK???? Nope... Coyote. I called at him and he spun around and ran at me like he was on a string but little did he know That big Doe was right on his A$$! He turned the afterburners on when he seen her on his rear. They ran a big circle and the Doe stopped and the yote ran back at me and sat down like someone told him to sit at 80yrds and was looking right in my direction. I was covered for the most part by the tree and I called at him again. As soon as I did he got up and started right at me. The next thing I know here comes that Doe again and ran him out of there. I have never seen anything like this before and would have to say it was my best sit so far.

CONGRATS Finch and N.C. Way to go!!!!!!!! Im workin at it guys!!!!!!
    GOOD LUCK TEAM!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the congrats, Gplant.

That sure sounds like an awesome sit. I'd love to witness what you did. Makes you wonder who the predator actually is, LOL. :)

Not to good of a day yesterday. Started off we got out there pretty early and just when we were getting ready to head into the stands I realized I had forgot my license back at home. Luckily I only live about 10 minutes from where I hunt. We finally got back and got in the stands a little late but still dark out. Sat for 4 hours and saw nothing. I always see something at least from this stand but I think because most of the fields are still up that the deer are holding up in the corn fields. Hopefully with the drier weather this week they will get out most if not all the fields before next week end. We decided to go check out another spot and when we got there the farmer was there and was checking to see if he would be able to harvest the corn there that afternoon. He was afraid that when the truck was full of corn that he wouldn't be able to get the truck out through the muddy fields. We decided to go ahead and walk back to a little wood lot that was in the middle of the standing corn. I really hate walking through standing corn but we did it anyways. I think that the deer head to this wood lot because its really flat and open all around it when the corn is out and you can see forever. This wood lot is in a field behind where I hunt all the time. I have thought for years this is where the deer go when they dissappear for m our hunting area. I for what ever reason didn't get permission to hunt this area until after last years hunting season ended. When we got back to the lot we busted 2 does out of it. It is only about a 50 yard by 70 yard wooded area. We decided to leave and come back when we can get in there in the morning and set up better. It has a natural spring in it and the farmer said there is always water in it for the deer to drink. we went back over to where we started out and didn't see anything. Later we decided to go back home and saw 2 does when we left. So for the day we did alot of walking alot of stand sitting and I only saw 4 does. My buddy did manage to see a buck with a messed up rack on it. It was one that I posted from the trail camera that was a long spike on one side and either 3 or 4 points on the other side. we opted not to go out again today hoping that the farmers will get the fields out this week and we can hit it hard all next week end.

Saw my best buck of the year so far and also setup 2 of my trail cams that I hadn't had a chance to get out yet. He was a couple of hundreds yards away walking along the edge of a slew and still not a shooter in my book, but a good sign none the less...

Good luck to all, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until we get some more deer down.....

Went to GMMAT's Friday PM, got skunked. I hunted close to home Sat AM, seen 9 does and 1 spike, alot of standing corn around this place. I stood to shoot one of the bigger does and the stand creaked and all 6 that was close ( 5 yards) turned inside out. PM yielded a button buck right under the stand and 4 does in right at dark, couldn't see through my peep. I've still got a buck tag and all the doe tags I want. Unless I see a mounter I won't be filling the buck tag. I've still got a 80 acre piece I've yet to step foot on, but I'll probably only use the boom stick there.
