Dan, All in All it sounded like a pretty good time! GREAT PIC'S!!!!! Next time will be your time! THATS HUNTING!!!! Johnny, SWEEEEEEEET! That is one NICE BEAR!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!! What kind of mount are you going to do on him? I got out a couple of times for the early antlerless season, 1st day had two young bucks come in. 2nd day I spent all day out there.Seen more young bucks and about the last hour a Doe was coming at me. NICE ONE! I was ready to deflate her when I caught movement and here come two spotted fawns. I couldnt do it. They looked very young and I figured they could use more time with Mom. I was hunting on a Friends land for Doe's and he said I was more then Welcome to come back during reg season to fill a Doe tag or two. Got lots of season left so Im not worried. It would have been nice to get one early but I just couldn't take her with fawns that looked that small. SORRY TEAM !!!!!
Thanks guys! Gonna have him walking out of the wall stepping on a fake rock or something? Should show off his big front end, white V and P&Y Melon!!
I was looking at the forecast for this weekend and I might have to go hunting Sunday afternoon. It looks like rain all weekend but might break up enough for a hunt. I don't really have the itch yet after the CO trip but I can feel it coming on.I'm going to head to the spot in SE Wisconsin I have. I have a buck tag already and 1 scouted out. We will see if it all comes together.
1st night in the stand with the bow end with me seeing a small 6 pointer at 25 yards and that was all she wrote. On the way home I saw a guy pulled over with his flashers on. I pull next to the deer he just hit to make sure he was all right, he was fine but the dee was still alive. His head was the only thing moving so I went to cut his throat and he jumps up and stands in the ditch. The cops weren't there yet so I pull out the bow and I was going to shoot it but he got another burst of energy and went in the woods. My daughter was almost in tears for the deer when the cops showed up. We went and looked for him and couldn't find him. He was a small buck.
I come across the deer on the side of the road thing allot. I hate it when they are still alive. The person that hit it gone to leave the poor thing to suffer. Just cant stand to see anything suffer!!! The ol'tire iron has come in handy! GOOD LUCK TEAM!!!! Thursday is our opener!!!!!! :D
Hear we go I got the itch bad now cool weather leaves falling I'm ready.Taking my wife out tomm. night and me by myself Wednesday morning. life is good. heading up North for Friday night and Sat morning. More so to get my daughter's stand ready for her first hunt. 10 years old and she has a great chance at a good buck what I wouldn't have give to hunt at 10.
I hope she gets a Good One!!!! That would have been cool to hunt at 10! We had to wait until we where 12 to bow hunt. They changed it here last year so they can bow hunt at 10 now. After my kids are grown of course. 45 degrees out and I am ready for tomorrow morning!!!! With what I've been seeing if its got 100in+ of antler he's in trouble!!! I haven't seen any big boys yet. Hope they show up with bow in hand:D Very strange this year. Im not seeing as many deer for some reason???? Been hearing the same thing from others.Oh well lets see what happens. GOOD LUCK TEAM!!!! I'll let you know what happens Thursday Night.
Good news guys. Work ask if I wanted off tomorrow. It didn't take long for me to say yes. Indiana's bow opener is tomorrow. Hope to have some good news to report tomorrow evening.
good luck Jim and Greg get us some points. I'm going to try and shoot a doe on Saturday.Last night I bumped a pig out of his bed. I thought for sure he was bedded on the east side in the swamp but he was in the oaks. I will let it cool down for a week then try it again.
No opening day success but I did manage to get scared to death. I was sitting there all nice and quiet and a turkey gobbled real loud. I thought it was on top of my head it was so loud. I finally located him after his third gobble roosting in a tree about 50 yards away. He was a pretty good sized bird. He was lucky he flew the opposite way when he decided to take off. It was also opening day for bow turkey also. After that I just sat there waiting for something to happen but nothing. I decided after awhile I would walk out and then try to figure out where I wanted to hunt this weekend. On my way out I busted 2 more turkey off of the roost. I got by where my truck was and looked past the woods and saw a nice buck about 150 yards away. He saw me to and took off towards the back corner of a bean field with a doe following him. I saw him bed down with her about 300 plus yards away out in the bean field. I decided I would try to sneak up on them to see if I could get a shot. I started walking towards the corner of the field and I saw another doe and buck about 200 yards away from me but they were walking where I could cut them off about half way to where the first 2 deer had went to. I decided to walk a few rows into a corn field that was next to the bean field they were in and I got to about 20 yards from where I thought they might end up near the corn field edge. Well when I got there and waited about 15 minutes the darn wind decided to switch directions and blow to the East where the 2 deer were at. At this time all I could see was the doe. The buck was still down the hill from where the doe was standing. We both just stood there for 30 minutes with neither of us moving. Finally the doe moved and I thought she was walking away because she had scented me. We were about 70 yards from each other. I decided to go ahead and try to walk up on the first 2 deer I had seen. Of the 2 sets of deer i had here the first buck that had bedded down was bigger but the doe was smaller than the other doe was. I had moved about 10 yards and I looked over and the doe didn't go away from me it was still coming to me. So I got back in the cornfield and went back to where I was to maybe get a shot at her because she was the bigger doe of the 2 so I decided to either take the first buck or the second doe. After I got set back up for her we watched each other again for about 10 minutes then she decided to leave the area for sure this time. The wind was still blowing towards them so I'm sure she figured it out. I debated for awhile then decide to just back out from trying to get to the bigger buck and not take a chance so I could take my climber back to that corner of the bean field and hunt over it this weekend. All in all I didn't get anything but it sure was fun trying. I chalk this up as a good morning.
Sounded like a great hunt, Jim. Our season opener is this Saturday. I've been sick with some kind of virus for the past couple days. I'll probably feel like crap but I'm not missing the opening morning. I HAVE to go to a wedding that evening but its still early. I'll drink away my troubles. Saw a new target buck this evening. I'd say he was at least a 10, maybe 130". I'm not good at guessing inches but he was a shooter. Wish me luck fellas and good luck to yall. Season is here!!!!
Well here's how my Luck starts for this season. Im Sick As Hell!!! All year long I feel Great and opening morning I wake up at 2:30am sick as a Dog This is the first time I've been out of bed since. Starting to feel better now. I cant believe this Crap!!!! I hope to get out tonight. First time ever to miss a opener let alone day 3 and haven't been out yet I just about went to the hospital yesterday with all this swine flu talk. My wife even stayed home because she was scared and she never misses work. I haven't been this sick in a long time!!!!! Anyway Sorry to be such a downer! Its been raining ever since the opener as well. It was a perfect morning on the opener, record low a.m. temps 32 degrees rain on the way it would have been a perfect deer moving morning and I missed it GOOD LUCK GUY'S!!!! I'll get back with you tonight.
Greg....I hear ya man. I've been sick as well. After 4 days...I'm beginning to feel better. Get Well! Saw 9 deer this morning. Two 8 pointers, one was maybe 75" and the other 100" I'm not sure if I would have taken the big one but he stayed 50 or so yards out which made the decision that much easier.
Hope you 2 feel better soon. I went to my cabin yesterday to get 2 stands set for my daughter. I decided to hunt in the afternoon before driving home. I couldn't decide between 2 trees back and forth. Now I know how my wife feels.:D I finally make up my mind and not more than 15 minutes into it here comes 2 fawns. They ate oak leaves with in 30 yards of me for 20 minutes. About 40 minutes later I have a forker come in and do the same thing for 45 minutes. I'm trying to shoot a doe waiting for ma to show up. With an hour left to go I see another buck spiker just come by and take a drink. Then at last light I see legs then body then the head it's a 7 point. Why is it everytime you go out to shoot a doe all you see is bucks? In all it was a great night.
