I'm chomping at the bit to get back out there. Trying everything I can to get out for a Friday AM sit, works trying to have a mandatory overtime day for a freaking chili cook off. Normally that would be ok but not during deer season, come on. Regardless, I'll be out Saturday. I hear ya on the temp dropping, only supposed to be low 40's maybe high 30's here, but starting about the 21st or so it looks like the lows are going to get below freezing as far South as the Ohio River valley. I've been waiting for some cold air so I'm not rushed to get the deer butchered up, kind of held me at bay so far. Good luck if you make it back out, hopefully you don't have to put a mercy tag on that 7.
Thanks, I think he'll be fine, the only thing that I think could be a problem is infection. He had no limp and didn't appear to have any serious damage. He was eatting acorns as he moved off so I'm hoping for the best. I did draw first blood with my BowTech Sentinel today... it was a bad day for the groundhog who had a hole 20 yards from my stand
Did some scouting in an area I haven't hunted near my house in preparation for my vacation the first week of Nov. Good sign in the area so I put up my Plo****cher camera for a few days. Got does moving regularly through the area and got this guy. He's not big by any stretch but he may be my first buck if given the chance.
Nothing wrong with that buck, especially if it were to be your first. Not a bad time for him to be on his feet either. Good luck making it happen. I don't know why but I am more optimistic this year than I have ever been(in my 3 1/2 years of hunting that is), something just feels right.
I to was excited about the time. Had a group of does come through the exact same spot about an hour before him. Do you think that's what he's checking out ?
I couldn't even begin to tell you what he's doing. When I first seen it I figured you either set the cam over a scrape or there was acorns in the area. Looking at the picture it wouldn't even surprise me if he is either reopening a scrape or starting a new one. Looks like he has his left front foot lifted up like he may be pawing through the leaves. Can't tell if there's any branches over it or not.
The camera is on a cedar tree but there are acorns around. He was only on two frames (5 seconds apart) so probably not working a scrape.
WEnt out today and the young bucks are getting really active. Had a 3 point come in to 10 yds and I watched him for a bit, then had another come out about 65yds or so away and pretty sure seen another 1 cross an opening but can't confirm it was a buck. Had one lone doe fawn at 7am and passed her. Sadly it is getting to the point to where my freezer will remain empty until after the rut, I may try some public land between now and Halloween though. The one good thing that came from today is I got my buck stand hung, been wanting to hang in this area for the past 2 years and today I decided to be like Nike and just do it. The past two years I have had what I deem shooter bucks pass by me just out of range but always taking the same general route. I've now got them covered from any of the 4 ways that they decide to take with 2 lanes. Years past it would have been perfect, can only hope the same holds true this year. Other than these two lanes I am completely obscured from the visual, if they see me it's too late, I just have to be sure to focus on scent control. I won't be sitting in it until my vacation 2nd week of November.
I had a button buck at 17 yds this morning while momma and sis were out about 70. He all of a sudden got real nervous and tore off back to mom. I was pretty sure he didn't wind me and a few seconds later 5 turkeys came scurrying by. I too got a stand hung near where I got pics of the buck yesterday. Wasn't the tree I initially wanted to use but with a little scouting I think I may have found a better one.
Hey everybody, stuff been really crazy around here lately and i haven't been able to get on here much. But tonight i got 50 points for out team. Pics and story is going to be up later on tonight or tomorrow.
Seen that in the other thread, congrats on the doe. Edit: That's awesome, just reread and seen you went without a harvest with the bow last year, hopefully it's the beginning of a productive year. We're slowly creeping up there. Young bucks are starting to pick their activity up around here. Won't be long before we get some antler on the board by someone.
Ill be back out there in the morning trying to put some more points on the board for us, and it is such a relief to finally kill another deer with my bow. This is my third season bowhunting and the second deer i have harvested.
Got back from the lease yesterday. I saw a good bit of action down there but never got one within bow range. I saw several does a few young bucks. I'll be heading back down there Nov 4-6, can't wait. Until it'll be public land and a small track of private land for me.
