I love ground hunting if the situation is right. A few years ago my buddy an I were ground hunting and I can called in his first deer ever 20 yards he smoked that big ol doe. It definitely feels up close an personal on the ground. Those guys from the hunting public are some killers from the ground. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I unfortunately don't have the land to leave stands or you bet id have a dozen sportsman guide specials lol nothing wrong with those at all. My buddy had a guide gear stand that put me in mind of a recliner lol it was a solid 9000 lbs but absolutely the most comfortable stand ive ever sat in. Wish they could do that for the mobile game haha. I've also found here, those bigger guys I'm after give me the opportunity where there are no trees. Clearcut and reclaim to be exact. That's the key in my neck of the woods. I stay out of the big blocks of monotonous timber for a couple reasons. One being it attracts a slew of other hunters and two being its almost impossible to remotely pattern a deer. Unless I'm lucky enough to find like a cliff or some sort of obstruction. Or my favorite...get lucky lol this is why I love this forum though. Guys hunting different ways in different regions. If we can gain just the slightest bit off each other in how we hunt it will give us that more of an advantage..im really feeling good about this year though. I only got a couple doe last year so I'm due after a goose egg buck year ha. Cant wait to show you all the footage also! Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Oh me too man! Shot my first deer with a bow on the ground when I was 11 on the same public land that I hunt today lol not the same area though because theres always like 5 trucks there every year ha. Yeah those guys are awesome! The ghillie action is intriguing to me for sure. You should also check out the untamed if you haven't already. Theyre out of West Virginia. Their whitetail videos are killer. Especially the ghillie ones. Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
bowhunt4abuck checking in! Sorry guys I’m usually on more than this I just now remembered to check for my team. I’m from Illinois. I broke my arm last month and life has been hectic ever since. I should be good to go by mid October though doc says so I’m looking forward to that for sure! I literally thought of this right before bed and I see we have an active group (awesome) so I’ll catch up on the thread when I wake up tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Good to have you man! Was starting to worry hahaha. Hope that wing heals quick for ya! Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Welcome to the team! Going back to how I carried sticks up. On the Aero Kestrel Saddle there’s molle webbing where you can attach stuff. I added two big orange clips that sit on my right and left. I put some paracord on each of my sticks and attached them to those clips. Was loud at first until I silenced the sticks with stealth strips and camp athletic wrap. My issue with the sticks was dealing with all the buckles and excess straps. Just became annoying. Was sitting around talking to my father in law about how I’d like to get some climbing spurs. He says “o, I think I have a pair in the basement”! And sure enough he did. My wife’s grandpa was a telephone pole lineman and my FIL unbeknownst to me use to hunt with an old set of his spurs. No lineman’s belt or safety harness...he’d just put on the spurs, wrap his arms around the tree and climb up until he could stand on a branch! I don’t think I could drop the cash on a new pair of spurs these days. They are over $200-$300. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't think im man enough to go up a tree with climbing spurs hahaha Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
This is the macgyver stuff I live for lol. Ill post some photos of the free walk in cooler i put together.
All caught up! Haven’t had a overly active team last couple years so looks like this year will be fun. I hunt a large chunk of private in northwestern Illinois of which I own 9 acres. The wife and I also bought a house in western Illinois right next to a big chunk of public I was all ready to rock. Did a crazy amount of scouting last winter with my new pup. Have a muddy sticks and hang on mobile set up I was about to start practicing with then I broke my arm lol I need to mow trails and check cameras this week so I’ll have more updates later. Looking forward to following along! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
wow never thought of spurs, might look into getting a set from some tree buddys and playing aorund with them in the yard.
And here's the donor. A $75 Craftsman LT1000 with a 17HP OHV single cylinder Briggs & Stratton. It's almost too nice to rip apart for this project. It cranked right up after I put the battery on the charger for a couple of hours. The crappy Nikki carburetor needs to either be rebuilt or replaced as it's got the near stereotypical surging that these motors do. After I put the drive belt on it, I let my 5 year old daughter drive me around the yard for a while. The mower deck needs a lot of work however. It's completely missing one spindle and who knows what else in parts. So in any event I'm not tempted to get it working as a lawn tractor at the moment. In addition to the carb work, I am going to have to Macgyver the ignition system and interlocks from the tractor to get it to work on the Swisher however, so it won't be happening today as I was hoping. Overall I'm pleased with this as a Facebook marketplace score. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
